AFL Hall of Famer and Brownlow medallist Dane Swan will make a footy cameo in country WA this weekend.

The 2010 Collingwood premiership star is locked in for his debut for York Roos in their Avon Football Association clash against Quairading at York’s Forrest Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The 41-year-old was one of the most prolific ball-winning midfielders of his generation, averaging nearly 27 disposals across his decorated 258-game AFL career.

Swan is a five-time All-Australian and won the AFL’s most prestigious individual honour in 2011.

He will not only play for the Roos, but host a post-game function at the club after alongside West Coast legend Glen Jakovich.

“I’m playing down at York Football Club on Saturday arvo, so come down if you want to see an old man try and get a kick,” Swan joked.

“I’ll be playing and we might get Glen Jakovich down to be the runner, well he might be the walker, not so much running because he’s useless.

“It should be a great day. If I’m not much value on game day, I’ll be much better value after… so come down and support the footy club and listen to me and Jako have a chat.”

The Roos have enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning three of their first four games to sit second on the Avon ladder.

Swan isn’t the first ex-AFL player to line up for York this season, with former West Coast big man Fraser McInnes booting four goals against Cunderdin earlier in the month.

Bouncedown is at 2.15pm, while the ticketed post-game event starts at 6pm.
