Peel Football League made it a hat-trick of Great Southern Colts Carnival titles after an unbeaten weekend in Kulin.

Peel capped off an impressive two days by defeating Great Southern Storm by 35 points on Sunday – 7.8 (50) to 2.3 (15) – after booting four goals to none in the second half.

The Cavaliers booked their place in the decider with victories over Eastern Districts, Upper Great Southern and Goldfields on day one, while the Storm knocked off Ongerup, Lower South West and Esperance.

Peel talent Trent Robertson won the Clem Bray Trophy for best-afield in the grand final.

Eastern Districts won the third-placed play-off against Esperance, Goldfields and Lower South West played out a thrilling draw and Uppers beat Ongerup in their respective finals.

Goldfields young gun Tim George won the prestigious Harry Reeves Medal for the carnival’s fairest-and-best player, with Eastern Districts’ Zac Sprigg runner up.

Nine players from the grand final made the Great Southern 20 for Team of the Tournament, including five from the victorious Peel outfit.

These players from the carnival will form the Regional Districts team which will compete in Division Two of the CBH Group Colts Carnival at the Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Football Championships held in Perth and Peel next month.

“It was a fantastic two days of football showcasing the best young footballers in our southern leagues, with more than 200 players across eight league taking part,” WA Football’s Country Competitions Manager Brent Sheridan said.

“A massive congratulations goes out to the Shire of Kulin, Kulin-Kondinin Football Club and the Great Southern Football Council for putting on a brilliant weekend in the longest-standing footy carnival in the State.

“We look forward to seeing the Regional Districts team compete in Division Two of the CBH Group Colts Carnival at the Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Football Championships next month after impressing over the weekend.”
