The reigning premiers won back-to-back games for the first time this year in the Sullivan Logistics WAFL season, while South Fremantle remain top dogs after defeating the Royals.
Peel Thunder 14.15 (99) V West Coast 7.5 (47)
Peel are working their way into the season now with two wins on the trot after dismantling the Eagles at Lane Group Stadium.
Will Brodie (34 disposals, eight tackles) set the tone early with 22 first half touches and plenty including Scott Tuia, James Aish, Archie Caldow and Nathan O’Driscoll followed suit.
Corey Trezenga was the focal point up forward booting four goals, whilst Charlie Nicholls, Kyelan Sanders and recently re-signed Aiden Riddle all kicked two.
Liam Reidy won 39 hit outs in a dominant ruck display and Isaiah Dudley had four scoring shots from 15 possessions, albeit for just the one goal.
There wasn’t much to write home about for West Coast, who trailed from the 14-minute mark of the opening quarter, but Loch Rawlinson worked hard as usual and earned two goals, while Jobe Shanahan and Rhett Bazzo performed admirably.
WAFL Best and Fairest winner Harley Sparks is having another stellar season after returning from concussion and is a shining light among the Eagles’s piling losses.
Perth 11.10 (76) v Swan Districts 9.7 (61)
The Demons, notwithstanding having played an extra game, drew level with the Sharks on points on the WAFL ladder after a third term blitz led them to victory over the Black Ducks on Saturday.
Perth were led by ex-Geelong trio Charlie Constable (37 disposals, 10 marks), Brandon Parfitt (26 disposals, eight marks) and Blake Schlensog (28 disposals, 33 hit outs, 12 marks).
Constable is the leading possession winner in the competition now and is putting his hand firmly in Sandover Medal calculations.
Noah Cachard, Matthew Taylor and Riley Wills also performed well, while goalkickers Aaron Clarke (3), Lochlan Paton and Brodie McLean (2 each) hit the scoreboard.
Skipper Jesse Turner kicked two goals from 31 disposals for Swans, while full-forward Leigh Kohlmann booted three.
South Fremantle 15.7 (97) v East Perth 12.15 (87)
The Bulldogs won in all three men’s grades over the weekend, and celebrated a particularly special victory in the reserves as club champion Haiden Schloith made a successful return from his battle with testicular cancer.
The 31-year-old Sandover Medal winner and four-time Best and Fairest kicked a goal in his first game since last season after being announced as cancer-free at Easter and will continue to build his fitness as he seeks a heroic League homecoming.
He will bolster the Bulldogs who sit first on the ladder already and are coming off a narrow victory against the Royals on Saturday afternoon.
Trey Ruscoe was dominant kicking seven goals, whilst Jake Florenca and Matthew Parker added to their outstanding seasons with strong games.
Angus Scott and Stan Wright both played well, while Sam van Diemen and Thomas Medhat each kicked three for the Royals, who slipped to fifth on the ladder.
Ben Middleton kicked a goal in his 50th WAFL match, and the Royals next week will celebrate Bradley Fullgrabe’s 50th game and Hamish Brayshaw’s 100th game.
