The Swan Districts Football Club is a home away from home for Tallan Ames.

Announced as the black and whites 2025 Ball Legend, Ames is a popular recipient of the honour.

“Being named the 2025 Ball Legend is an incredible honour that fills me with immense pride,” Ames said.

“Reflecting on the list of legends who've received this recognition before me, many of whom I played alongside or looked up to, it's humbling to now be part of that esteemed group.

“It's a testament to the dedication and passion I've had for the Swan Districts Football Club throughout my life.”

Spending his childhood in Bassendean, Ames always had visions of playing for Swans.

“Growing up just around the corner from Steel Blue Oval, playing for Swan Districts was a dream come true,” he said.

“My 263-game career in the WAFL was filled with cherished memories, but the 2010 premiership stands out as a pinnacle moment.

“Serving as captain for six years, earning life membership, and representing Western Australia four times are also highlights that I'll always treasure.”

The 41 year-old has remained an active contributor at the club and the community.

“Swans have been integral to my life,” Ames said.

“Living so close to the club, it naturally became a significant part of my daily routine and identity.

“Even after retiring, I remain actively involved, attending home games, participating in the Swansmen Association and the Past Players and Officials group.

“Additionally, I'm a Judda Bee sponsor, supporting the club's initiatives.

“Beyond the club, I serve as a councillor for the Town of Bassendean, advocating for the redevelopment of the Steel Blue Oval precinct to benefit both the football club and the broader community.

“It's about ensuring the club continues to thrive and remains a central hub for our community.

“The club's family culture and community spirit make it a place where everyone feels welcome and valued.”

Ames is only too happy to be part of a tradition which has seen many greats of the club recognised as Ball Legends.

“Absolutely, seeing names like Joel Cornelius, Shane Beros, Bill Walker, Stan Nowotny, and Travis Edmonds, individuals I've either played with or admired, makes this recognition even more special,” he said.

“It's a continuation of a proud tradition, and being part of that lineage is both an honour and a responsibility I cherish.”

Swan Districts hosts East Perth at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.
