WA King Hit By Late Goal At U18 National ChampionshipsMonday, June 30, 2025 - 10:31 AM

Western Australia has been denied its second victory at the Marsh AFL National Under-18 Boys Championships in a dramatic loss to the Allies in Melbourne yesterday.

Sydney Academy player Max King booted the match winner with a couple of minutes remaining as the Allies secured its first win of the Championships.

King finished with 2.3 for the day, including the goal to put the Allies in front.

WA led for most of the contest and were give plenty of drive from defenders Jacob Farrow (30 disposals, nine marks) and Dale Sutherland (19 disposals, four tackles).

Sam Swadling (23 disposals, one goal) and Matthew Becker (20 disposals, four marks) were impressive, while Luke Hallett (nine disposals, three goals) and West Coast Academy prospect Wes Walley (10 disposals, two goals) provided great threats in the forward line.

Western Australia coach Marc Webb couldn’t fault his side’s endeavour.

“The effort our players put in was outstanding and we had our chances to get the result, but the Allies were better for longer in the last quarter,” Webb said.

The defeat means WA’s record at the Championships is one win and two losses with a showdown against Vic Metro on Sunday in Perth to come.
