WA finish AFLW U18 Champs with back-to-back winsSaturday, July 19, 2025 - 12:53 PM - by Jordan McArdle

Western Australia made it back-to-back wins to finish their AFLW National Under-18s Championship campaign on Saturday, defeating the Allies by 16 points at Blacktown International Sportspark.

The straight-shooting WA made the most of their chances in front of goal in the 7.4 (46) to 3.12 (30) result to finish with a 2-2 record.

Subiaco key forward and exciting AFLW draft prospect Olivia Wolmarans starred after half-time with four second-half goals.

Swan Districts gun Carys D’Addario continued her strong carnival with another outstanding midfield performance, finishing with 19 disposals and eight clearances as her draft stocks continue to rise.

D’Addario won the State 18s MVP award after a consistent campaign to further enhance her first-round draft credentials.

West Perth midfielder Mia Russo, the hero of last week’s thrilling win over Vic Metro, was also among the best with 22 disposals and five tackles.

WA’s defence also stood tall under immense pressure, led East Fremantle defender Maya Louvel-Finn (18 disposals and six tackles) who read the play well and tackled strongly.

It was a goalless opening term in Blacktown with the Allies unable to capitalise on their opportunities.

WA finally broke the deadlock in the second term with back-to-back majors through South Fremantle’s Alira Fotu and East Perth’s Lucy Greenwood.

The hosts cut the margin back to two points by half-time but had a wasteful 1.7.

The dangerous Wolmarans gave WA the upper hand in the third quarter with two goals in 10 minutes, getting on the end of some excellent ball movement from her team’s impressive engine-room.

East Fremantle talent Alicia Blizard also hit the scoreboard as the Black Swans opened up a 19-point buffer midway through the third quarter.

The Allies finished the quarter strongly but couldn’t make the most of their good work up the ground, hitting the post twice and kicking just the one goal.

Wolmarans took less than 15 seconds to kick her third major to start the final quarter with a long-range effort that just kept bouncing.

She struck once again at the two-minute mark, taking a strong mark before converting her set shot from 40m out to extend WA’s buffer to 24 points.

The ball spent plenty of time inside the Allies’ attacking 50 but once again couldn’t do enough damage in front of the sticks in what was the story of their day as WA held on for an excellent win.
