Expressions of interest - WAFC CommissionersFriday, August 22, 2025 - 8:56 AM

The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC / WA Football), the governing body of Football in Western Australia, is seeking expressions of interest from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as a Commissioner (Board Member). The role of WA Football is to protect and to grow Football by overseeing the promotion, development and management of Football throughout the State and provide guidance, planning and leadership to all levels of the game.

WA Football will commence a new three-year Strategy in 2026, which aims to ensure that the growth of Football in Western Australia is sustainable into the future. Our vision remains the same – “the game for all Western Australians”.

We are seeking a diversified representation of Commissioners, by reference to skills, experience, gender, ethnicity and age, who can assist in leading both WA Football and the WA Football Industry through a period of new opportunities, support the good governance and accountability of our organisation, and foster strong relationships with all stakeholders connected to our game.

Experience and exposure to sport, not just Football, will be highly regarded, alongside governance, risk, financial management, and facilities and infrastructure expertise. A level of participation and engagement is required with stakeholders as well as the ability to contribute actively at Board level with independence and objectivity. Completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Governance course (or similar) is a desirable qualification. Furthermore, WA Football is seeking to maintain gender parity on the Board and is targeting gender diversity and candidates that identify as female.

There are two positions to be filled, of which each of the current Commissioners is required to retire by rotation and are eligible to stand again and may be seeking reappointment. The two appointments will be effective for a three-year term from 1 January 2026 to 1 January 2029. The position of Commissioner is not remunerated.

WA Football is a not-for-profit sports association established in 1989 and is responsible for the overall development and strategic direction of Football in Western Australia. WA Football oversees the West Australian Football League (WAFL), State Talent Academies, and Junior and Senior Community Football including regional Football, Auskick, women’s Football and inclusive Football. The ownership of Indian Pacific Limited (West Coast Eagles Football Club) and the Fremantle Football Club is controlled by WA Football as subsidiaries of its business.

As the WAFC Board strives to be as diverse as the communities it represents, we actively encourage applications from women, Indigenous and multicultural candidates.

Details of Commissioner duties, obligations and detailed criteria are available – please contact kwynhorst@wafootball.com.au for details.
