South West continue remarkable Nutrien Ag Solutions Women’s Country Football Championship title streakFriday, October 3, 2025 - 8:05 PM - by Jordan McArdle

South West have kept their remarkable streak of Nutrien Ag Solutions Women’s Country Football Championship titles going after a 21-point grand final victory against Great Northern under lights at Hands Oval in Bunbury on Friday night.

The SWFL made it six titles from as many attempts, continuing their reign as the best women’s competition in country WA.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic though with Great Northern hanging in there and the game not beyond doubt until Gemma Hill’s second major with three minutes to go.

Carey Park product Hill booted two second-half goals in a game-changing performance in what was a low-scoring affair as South West prevailed 4.11 (35) to GNFL’s 2.2 (14).

Captain and former West Coast AFLW player Ella Smith won the Nutrien Ag Solutions Medal as the fairest-and-best player across the Division One carnival to go with the best-afield medallion for the decider.

It ended a brilliant year which saw her win the South West competition’s most prestigious individual honour – the Nola Marino Medal - alongside Kloe Bassett.

Running machine Holly Creedon, Bassett and former East Fremantle WAFLW fairest-and-best winner Beth Beckett were also outstanding in the win.

Like they had done all carnival, Andie Payne, Olivia Bidwell and Ellie Blackmore were among the best for Great Northern on their way to All-Star selection.

South West suffered their first loss of the tournament earlier in the day, with Division One newcomers Great Southern causing a massive boilover on the back of a dominant performance with former Hockeyroo Kat Slattery.

Great Southern then knocked off last year’s grand finalists Peel Football Netball League in the third-versus-fourth play-off to relegate them into Division Two.

In the Division Two decider, Goldfields earned promotion to the top flight with a 15-point grand final victory over North Pilbara.

Classy 16-year-old left-footer Marley Kelman, who has already made her WAFLW debut for Subiaco, was named Best Under-21s Player of the Carnival to go with her All-Star selection to cap off a stellar first carnival.

Dynamic Railways goal-kicking duo Drew Epis and Paris Ulijin combined for four majors in the decider to continue their hot form in a season they kicked 93 goals between them in the Goldfields Football League.

Goldfields only dropped one game for the tournament, a shock loss to fourth-placed Kimberley early on day two.

Esperance finished third after defeating Kimberley in their play-off clash by one point in a low-scoring affair, with their skipper Annie-May Jannings winning Division Two Player of the Carnival.

South West had the most players in the All-Star Team with Smith and now six-time champion Rennie Meadmore who were both prominent in the decider.
