2025 WAFL season review: SubiacoMonday, October 20, 2025 - 12:04 PM

A new era is beginning in Subiaco, after a season from which they found plenty of positives in the form of youth and potential.

The club recently welcomed back Jarrad Schofield as Head Coach, a position he held from 2013-2018 and won three premierships in and appointed a new CEO in Kellie Properjohn.

Subiaco defeated West Coast in Round 2 but lost their next seven games as they began to blood debutants and focus on revamping their side for the future.

Sonny Siano, Lachlan O’Keefe, Hudson Walker, Kieran Douglas, Jarrad Richards, Xavier Hickey, Tyler Senge, Regan Mott, Charlie Burke, Wes Walley and Daniel Gathercole all played their first senior games for the club, showing plenty of promise and delivering hope to Lions fans that the next generation will be successful.

Jack Mayo, Benjamin Golding and Joshua Robbins each played their 50th games and Ryan Borchet played his 100th, the latter also making the WAFL State Team and finishing equal-10th in the Bernie Naylor Medal Race.

The club’s main focal point up forward, 21-year-old Archer May, was selected by Essendon in the mid-season draft after booting 12 goals in his first six WAFL appearances. He too made the State Team.

There were still plenty of impressive performers over the course of the year, none more so than skipper Greg Clark who averaged 24 disposals and 7.8 tackles per game.

Stefan Giro, Taj Schofield, Jordan Snadden and Wil and Liam Hickmott all had fine seasons as well, as the core group of experienced Lions look to mentor the new era of youth coming through.

Subiaco will hope to improve on their 4-14 record next year under Jarrad Schofield after finishing 9th this season.

Schofield went 98-32 in his time coaching the club previously and will take learnings from his time at the West Coast Eagles, even as an interim Head Coach in 2024.

Mayo’s stand out season was recognised when he was announced as the Outridge Medal winner.
