Inaugural Bachar Houli Girls Camp Offers High Performance EducationWednesday, October 22, 2025 - 11:03 AM

Four WA girls were among a group of 16 participants at the inaugural 2025 Bachar Houli Senior Girls National Sports Academy recently held in Sydney.

The five day camp welcomed girls from all sporting backgrounds, with sport related activities ranging from basketball at the Australian College of Physical Education, soccer at the Western Sydney Wanderers and football at Greater Western Sydney.

16 year-olds Ifrah Ahmed and Nazeeha Khan joined fellow West Australians, 17 year-olds Alyaa Diran and Aneeqa Mahmood, on the special trip to Sydney.

All play a variety of sports with a common passion for becoming better athletes and people.

Aneeqa spoke of the joy the camp provided.

“It was a wonderful honour and achievement that I was selected for the 2025 Bachar Houli Senior Girls National Sports Academy in Sydney,” Mahmood said.

“We had a wonderful time getting to know all the other participants, and as it was a high-performance camp, we were treated like elite athletes.

“This program is designed to accelerate our potential through both leadership and physical development activities and skills such as teamwork, punctuality, mental-peak performance, and identity-building.

“Overall, it was a very fun and enjoyable experience that has left all of us more connected, motivated, and inspired to excel.”

Other activities at the camp included a nutrition and leadership session, horse-riding, and strength and conditioning followed by a recovery session in the hydro-therapy recovery pool.

Pinar Komur, Multicultural Officer from WA Football was WA’s state mentor at the event, joining other leaders from Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.

The input from experts made a major impression on Aneeqa and everyone who attended.

“We had coaches and mentors specific to the activity we were doing, such as Olympian Tina Rahimi coaching us in boxing which was exciting,” Mahmood said.

Like so many participants at the camp, Aneeqa is looking to forge her own sporting pathway.

“I have a passion for all things sports and exercise,” she said.

“Although I don’t play footy myself, I have played basketball for three seasons, I love to cycle and regularly stay active.

“Thank you to BHF and everyone who organised the camp.”
