Falcons appoint new CEO

Former Athletics New Zealand CEO Linda Hamersley has been appointed as West Perth FC's new Chief Executive Officer. Ms Hamersley recently resigned her position as CEO with Athletics New Zealand to relocate back to Perth to join her husband, Colin Batch, who is the Australian Men’s Hockey Coach.  Linda held her role with Athletics New Zealand from 2014-2017 and oversaw a period of considerable business and membership growth in the organisation during her time. The sporting organisation caters for more than 200 affiliated clubs with a membership of 25,000 people and 100,000 registered athletes. Prior to this, Linda was the Sports Services Manager for the New Zealand Olympic Committee and was also CEO of Hockey WA from 2004 – 2009. Read More ...

Aboriginal youth sports super carnival

2018 pre-season fixtures are in

West Australian Football League pre-season fixtures will be played over three rounds from Saturday, March 10 to Saturday March 24. The first two rounds will consist of 4 x 25 minute quarters and the final round will be played under full match conditions. Vale Frank Allen

East Perth Football Club Legend and 1950 Sandover Medallist Frank Allen passed away aged 91 on Sunday, February 4. Allen will be long remembered for his elite skills which saw him represent Western Australia on 11 occasions, and win East Perth's fairest and best award in 1950. Cooper to develop Eagles' future talent

Jan Cooper, the 2015 Football Woman of the Year, has joined the West Coast Eagles to support and grow the club’s Development Academies in preparation for its entry into the AFLW in 2020.    Cooper will work alongside AFL life member Drew Petrie this season to support the club's 2nd Generation, Female and Naitanui Academies. Last year the WA Football Commission, West Coast and WAFL Clubs worked collaboratively to conduct more than 12,000 engagements with young people across WA through Academy programs, supporting football skills development while promoting the benefits of diversity and inclusion. Dockers and Eagles set for AFLX

Fremantle and West Coast will head to Adelaide for the opening night of the new AFLX competition on Thursday February 15 at Hindmarsh Stadium. The Dockers and Eagles will play against the Adelaide Crows, Port Adelaide, Collingwood and Geelong in the new version of Australian Football that has been designed to take the traditional game from oval grounds to rectangular fields. Crute appointed as WAFC Umpiring Manager

The West Australian Football Commission has confirmed the appointment of West Perth Football Club CEO David Crute as WAFC Umpiring Manager. The new role has been added as a key recommendation of the WAFC’s recent Structural Review of Football and will commence on January 31. WAFC CEO Gavin Taylor said that David would be a valuable addition to the WAFC’s restructured umpiring department in a key leadership position tasked with overseeing the development of WA’s community and WAFL umpires. “David has almost 20 years of leadership experience in football as a WAFL club CEO, Community Development Manager at Fremantle Football Club, WAFC Development Manager, WAFL assistant coach and accredited Level Two Umpire,” Mr Taylor said. WAFL set for an exciting 2018 season

Fixtures for the 2018 McDonald’s WAFL Premiership Season have been confirmed with traditional rivalry clashes, feature rounds and a more even draw expected to deliver a highly competitive and exciting season for Australia’s premier State League competition. A shorter season will commence two weeks later than 2017, with Round 1 to kick off on Good Friday, March 30. West Australian Football Commission elections

The results of the elections for Commissioners of the West Australian Football Commission were endorsed on Wednesday 13 December 2017, by the Nominee Members of the WAFC (WA’s AFL and WAFL Clubs) at a meeting of WA Football stakeholders. Current Commissioner Grant Dorrington was reappointed for a second term of three years, and Chris Cottier and Brian O’Donnell were each appointed as new Commissioners for terms of three years. Boekhorst becomes a Shark

The East Fremantle Football Club is delighted to announce that former Carlton listed player Blaine Boekhorst will be joining the Sharks for the next two seasons. Boekhorst, a midfielder who can play inside and out with an ability to kick goals, is the sixth ex-AFL talent to join the Shark’s ranks in what has been a busy off-season for the club. WA footy talents shine at national leadership camp

Eight of Western Australia’s best rising male Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander football talents represented the nation at this year’s Rio Tinto AFL Flying Boomerangs Leadership Program recently held in Fiji. The eight-day national under-16 male Indigenous development camp focused on football, personal and career development, leadership and cultural identity.  WA’s Michael Mallard (West Perth) captained the team of 26, which comprised of WA talents Roy George (Swan Districts), Jordan Kickett (Perth), Ezekial Bolton (Subiaco), Reece Gerrand (West Perth), Ira Jetta (south Fremantle), Tyreece Binder (Subiaco) and Isiah Winder (Peel). WAFC announces changes to WAFL Finals eligibility
