IN four years since his time with Fremantle, Haiden Schloithe has turned himself into perhaps the best all-round player not in the AFL system in Australia and he couldn’t be prouder to have received the Sandover Medal after his outstanding 2017 season with South Fremantle. Schloithe originally joined South Fremantle from Katanning to play in a colts premiership before then being added to Fremantle's rookie-list for the 2012 and 2013 AFL seasons. He couldn’t quite make it for an AFL debut but when he returned to South Fremantle full-time in 2014, he was at the age and of the mindset where he was ready to really make his mark as an outstanding WAFL footballer. CLAREMONT's colts and Subiaco's reserves both won their respectively WAFL preliminary final matches on Sunday at Leederville Oval to book their places in the 2017 Grand Final. Preliminary final day at Leederville Oval began on Sunday morning with Claremont qualifying for a fourth consecutive Grand Final, beating East Perth 8.9 (57) to 6.9 (45). It is a remarkable performance by the Tigers who lost the 2014 Grand Final to Swan Districts but have won the past two premierships and now have the chance to make it a hat-trick this Sunday. WA Football volunteer Tom Busher has been recognised for his significant contribution and leadership in the growth and development of football in the South West region as the 2017 recipient of The Sunday Times WA Football Volunteer of the Year Award. Busher was presented with the award at the West Australian Football League Sandover Medal Count on Monday, September 18. SOUTH Fremantle's Haiden Schloithe has been rewarded for his work as an equally damaging midfielder and goalkicking forward by claiming the Sandover Medal as the WAFL's fairest and best player in 2017. It was a fitting end to the vote count for 2017 that Schloithe's nearest rival was his teammate Tim Kelly after the pair had standout seasons with the Bulldogs helping lead them all the way to Sunday's preliminary final before losing to Subiaco. Little could separate Schloithe and Kelly throughout the WAFL season with South Fremantle both proving tremendous inside midfielders and clearances winners, while able to break away and run and carry the ball, and go forward to kick goals. SUBIACO has won its way into a fourth successive WAFL Grand Final overcoming a slow start to beat South Fremantle in the preliminary final at Leederville Oval by 32 points on Sunday.   Both the Lions and Bulldogs had lost to Peel Thunder in the opening two weeks of the AHG WAFL Finals Series meaning there was only room for one of the top two teams from the home and away season in the Grand Final for 2017.   South Fremantle made a terrific start to the preliminary final with the opening three goals before Subiaco steadied to kick eight of the last 10 goals of the first half to head into half-time with a 22-point advantage.
