Round 17 WAFL Results

Saturday, July 19, 2014 - 10:01 PM - by Chris Pike
A NEW highest score for the season, biggest first quarter, biggest last quarter and a move up to second position was all part of the Round 17 WAFL action on Saturday afternoon, and that all took place at just one of the three venues where matches were played. The team to achieve all of that was Subiaco who kicked 8.5 in the first quarter, 10.1 in the final term and then 27.9 (171) to 15.8 (98) for the match against Perth at Leederville's Medibank Stadium. That saw the Lions kick the highest first and last quarter scores of the season, the highest score in a match by any team this season and in the process replace Swan Districts in second position on the WAFL ladder after 17 rounds of the 2014 season. In other results on Saturday afternoon, Claremont stormed home to beat Swan Districts 14.13 (97) to 14.10 (94) at the Claremont Showground and East Fremantle also finished strongly to defeat Peel Thunder 14.14 (98) to 11.8 (74) at East Fremantle Oval. One big pre-season turns Jetta into 100-game star

Friday, July 18, 2014 - 4:40 PM - by Chris Pike
GRAHAM Jetta looked about as far away from a 100-game WAFL footballer as it gets upon arrival at Swan Districts in 2009, but one big pre-season changed all of that and he has turned himself into a premiership player, state footballer and now books his name on the No. 13 locker this Saturday. Jetta originally moved up to Perth from Bunbury to help support younger brother Lewis in 2009 who at the end of that season was drafted to the Sydney Swans where he  has now gone on to play 94 matches and be a star in the 2012 AFL premiership. However, Graham readily admits that he wasn’t in the shape required to be a regular WAFL footballer in 2009 and he played just the eight games that season for four goals as a regular small forward. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 6:20 PM - by Chris Pike
GRAHAM Jetta is enjoying his football with Swan Districts as much as at any other point in his career as he prepares for his 100th match this Saturday as he revels in a role as a leader for a young and exciting black-and-whites group. The 27-year-old veteran now of 99 games as well a premiership and state player has been close to ending his WAFL career a couple of times, but after originally coming up to Perth in 2009 to support younger brother Lewis, he stayed on in 2014 to help 20-year-old brother Brandon find his feet at Swan Districts.
