ABSENCE can make the heart grow fonder and it's fair to say the delayed start to the 2020 Optus WAFL Premiership Season has built the excitement to fever pitch for four massive contests in Round 1 across the four venues this Saturday. There is so much to look forward in Round 1 of the 2020 WAFL season but really it is just exciting to have action back on the field for the players, coaching and staff to be involved in, and indeed for the fans to be able to turn out in droves once more to attend the games. In the end, what the 2020 season will look like is that it will feature nine teams playing over nine rounds in the home and away season.  Read More ...

Howard's dreams keep coming true with Swan Districts

Friday, July 17, 2020 - 2:54 PM - by Chris Pike
IT'S hard to imagine there have been too many more consistent and reliable defenders in the rich history of Swan Districts than Alex Howard, but the fact that he grew up dreaming of playing for Swans and that it means so much to his family suggests life membership trumps that. By the time Howard got into his early teenage years, he started to follow Swan Districts closely thanks to those special colts teams given the likes of Tony Notte, Michael Walters, Nic Naitanui, Chris Yarran, David Ellard and Alex Rance were all friends with his older brother. What that did, though, was create a lifetime love of the Swan Districts Football Club for Howard. He might have arrived at Steel Blue Oval or all the other WAFL grounds for the colts, but he would stay with his father until the league game. Read More ...

Premiership drives Schloithe ahead of 150th game

Friday, July 17, 2020 - 1:05 PM - by Chris Pike
WHILE Haiden Schloithe is rightfully tremendously proud ahead of earning life membership at South Fremantle by playing his 150th game to open the WAFL season on Saturday, it's that ultimate desire for a premiership driving him on more than anything. From the moment Schloithe made the move up to play colts football at South Fremantle from Katanning, he appeared destined for great things going on to play in a premiership with the Bulldogs in 2011 and ultimately being rookie-listed by the Fremantle Dockers. He made his league debut at the Bulldogs in 2011 as well and virtually ever since, has gone on to become one of the most damaging and decorated in the WAFL this century. Read More ...

Prolific Falcon Nelson still looking to improve

Thursday, July 16, 2020 - 12:56 PM - by Chris Pike
HE is one of the most prolific ball winners in WAFL history but triple West Perth fairest and best winner Shane Nelson is anything but content and is always looking to improve with the shortened 2020 season no different. Ever since he made his WAFL debut back in 2012, Nelson has confirmed himself as one of the most remarkable natural ball winners the game has seen and along the way the accolades have accumulated. He has now won three Breckler Medals as West Perth's fairest and best on top of being a regular state representative and having been a key player in the 2013 premiership for the Falcons, and perhaps unlucky not to have claimed the Simpson Medal on that day as well. THE Perth Football Club was always hopeful that Fraser McInnes would return to his original WAFL club at some stage and now that has happened for the 2020 season with the versatile big man committed to the cause of helping the Demons to finals action. He has remained with the Eagles ever since and after playing his first 37 league matches with the Demons, he joined East Perth as part of West Coast's partnership in 2014 and went on to play 76 games with the Royals.
