Round 4 Optus WAFL Preview

IT is a short turnaround from WAFL action on Easter Sunday to close Round 3 to ANZAC Day to open Round 4 but the stage is set for a tremendous clash to mark the occasion between traditional rivals Perth and East Perth. Round 3 of the WAFL was spread right across Easter with Subiaco beating West Coast and Peel Thunder defeating East Fremantle on Good Friday before Perth held off Swan Districts, and Claremont proved too good for East Perth on Saturday. The round concluded on Easter Sunday with South Fremantle beating West Perth, and now four days later Round 4 gets underway on ANZAC Day with what should be a tremendous clash between two long-time rivals. Round 3 Colts Wrap

THERE were plenty of standout match-winning performances across Round 3 of WAFL Colts action over Easter with victories for Peel Thunder, Swan Districts, Claremont and West Perth. The Easter Round in the WAFL Colts began on Good Friday at Mandurah's David Grays Arena with Peel Thunder defeating East Fremantle 10.11 (71) to 6.6 (42). Then on Saturday, Swan Districts beat Perth 10.12 (72) to 6.6 (42) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval while Claremont opened its account for 2019 beating East Perth 10.8 (68) to 6.5 (41) at Leederville Oval. EASTER Round in the WAFL saw wins for Subiaco, Peel Thunder, Perth, Claremont and South Fremantle with some standout individual performances including from Haiden Schloithe, Declan Mountford, Blair Bell and Bailey Banfield in the race for Player of the Round honours. Round 3 in the WAFL across Easter began on Good Friday with Subiaco hosting the West Coast Eagles at Leederville Oval. The Lions came from behind in the last quarter to win 8.12 (60) to 6.9 (45). The other Good Friday fixture took place at Mandurah's David Grays Arena with Peel Thunder also coming from behind to beat East Fremantle 12.13 (85) to 11.7 (73). Read More ...


Optus WAFL Round 3 Wrap

EASTER Round in the WAFL was spread across three days and saw some terrific action with Subiaco and Peel Thunder scoring Good Friday victories, Claremont continuing its impressive form, Perth holding out Swan Districts and then South Fremantle proving too good for West Perth. Easter Round in the WAFL began with two matches on Good Friday and it started with Subiaco playing the West Coast Eagles for the first ever time. The reigning premier Lions had to fight hard but won a 22nd straight match with the eventual 8.12 (60) to 6.9 (45) victory. The other Good Friday clash is the now annual fixture between Peel and East Fremantle at Mandurah's David Grays Arena. Subiaco v West Coast – Leederville Oval 1.10pm  There will be plenty of activities for families at the bumper Easter Friday clash between Subiaco and West Coast. A special Easter egg hunt will be conducted all day at the game, while a junior parade will run before the beginning of the game. The Kids Zone at the Northern end will be open – plenty of activities, prizes and games galore.  Spend $10 at the Sports Bar and go in with a chance to win a signed Subiaco Jumper. Round 3 Optus WAFL Preview

IT is Easter time and that means a monster Round 3 of WAFL action spread across three days beginning with two matches on Good Friday, another two on Saturday and then concluding with the broadcast clash featuring South Fremantle and West Perth on Sunday. Good Friday WAFL football has now been a regular occurrence for some time and it has settled on both Subiaco and Peel Thunder playing host to matches on the holy day. That will continue in 2019 with Subiaco playing the West Coast Eagles at Leederville Oval from 1.15pm and later in the afternoon from 3.45pm, Peel will host East Fremantle at Mandurah's David Grays Arena. Youth Football Invitational

The WAFC Metro Central Conference held their inaugural Youth Football Invitational last weekend with over 400 year seven footballers participating, making the jump from junior to youth football.   The day revolved around familiarising players and parents with the different rules and regulations that come with moving up the age bracket, specifically in regard to matches themselves and the new rules. WA U16s Selection Match

The WA State U16s will have a final hit out before the team is selected for the State Carnival held in June across Western Australia and Queensland.  Players will partake in a practice game at the Fremantle Dockers Football Club in Cocburn, giving the youngsters a final chance to impress.  Bouncedown will be at 4.30pm on Thursday April 18.  Read More ...


Round 2 Colts Wrap

WEST Perth, Swan Districts, East Fremantle and Perth all recorded WAFL Colts Super Round victories across the weekend at Steel Blue Oval and New Choice Homes Park. The WAFL Colts Super Round got underway on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval. Those two matches saw West Perth defeat Claremont 8.7 (55) to 5.10 (40) and then Swan Districts defeated East Perth 10.8 (68) to 8.4 (52). The round then picked up on Sunday at East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park with the last two games of the weekend in the colts. That began with East Fremantle producing an impressive performance to defeat Subiaco 12.8 (80) to 3.5 (23) before Perth prevailed 9.12 (66) to 6.9 (45) against South Fremantle. Read More ...

ROUND 2 of the 2019 WAFL season saw a host of standout individual performances while Subiaco and Claremont won big for the second straight week, Perth remained undefeated and East Perth and the West Coast Eagles both opened their accounts. All five Round 2 WAFL matches took place on Saturday afternoon starting at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with Perth holding on in a thriller over South Fremantle, winning 11.10 (76) to 10.13 (73). Optus Stadium then hosted a home and away WAFL fixture for the first time and it was a historic occasion with the West Coast Eagles winning their first game as a standalone club, beating Peel Thunder 11.11 (77) to 6.14 (50). Optus WAFL Round 2 Wrap

PERTH continued its impressive start to the 2019 WAFL season holding out South Fremantle in Round 2 action on Saturday while Subiaco and Claremont scored two more thumping victories, the West Coast Eagles won for the first ever time and East Perth opened their account. All five Round 2 WAFL matches took place on Saturday afternoon starting at Fremantle Community Bank Oval where Perth opened a 23-point lead before surviving a South Fremantle fight back to win 11.10 (76) to 10.13 (73). The first ever WAFL home and away season clash at Optus Stadium also took place on Saturday and that saw the West Coast Eagles make history winning their first ever game with an 11.11 (77) to 6.14 (50) triumph over Peel Thunder. Round 2 Optus WAFL Preview

ROUND 2 of the 2019 WAFL season again sees all five matches take place on Saturday and there's plenty of intrigue surrounding each contest including the first home and away season match to be played on Optus Stadium. Optus Stadium played host to a tremendous WAFL Grand Final day in 2018 and now will host a home and away fixture for the first ever time on Saturday when Peel Thunder plays the West Coast Eagles in the lead up to the Western Derby as the evening fixture at the stadium. The other Round 2 WAFL action sees two of the winners from last Saturday, South Fremantle and Perth, do battle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in the earlier starting contest at 1.15pm. Kai Eardley Foundation Colts Super Round

The WAFL Simply Energy Colts will help raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention when the Kai Eardley Foundation Colts Super Round is played this weekend. The Super Round includes double-headers at Steel Blue Oval, Bassendean on Saturday, April 13 and New Choice Homes Park, East Fremantle, on Sunday, April 14. A gold coin donation at each ground will raise funds for the Kai Eardley Foundation, which is named in honour of East Fremantle player Cam Eardley’s younger brother, Kai, who tragically took his own life in 2016. Mother Claire Eardley, said the Kai Eardley Foundation aimed to reduce the stigma attached to suicide and equip young men with the skills to navigate mental illness. Read More ...
