James named weekly nominee for Auskicker of the Year

James Kenny, from Western Australia’s Wembley Downs NAB AFL Auskick Centre, became the envy of all Auskickers when he was announced as the ninth weekly nominee for the 2019 NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year competition. The NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year competition calls for 2019 registered and truly awesome participants of the NAB AFL Auskick program to enter for the chance to become one of 22 weekly nominees. WA greats inducted to Australian Football Hall of Fame

WA Football greats were last night inducted to the Australian Football Hall of Fame to recognise their stellar contribution to the game.   The late Ron Evans (West Perth and WA State player),1985 Brownlow Medallist Brad Hardie (South Fremantle and WA State player) and Ken Hunter (Claremont and WA State player) were inducted along with former West Coast Eagles premiership coach Michael Malthouse, St Kilda's Trevor Barker and South Australian Jim Deane.   The Australian Football Hall of Fame was established in 1996 and serves to recognise players, coaches, umpires, administrators, and media representatives who have made an outstanding contribution to Australian football. Optus WAFLW Round 5 Wrap

SATURDAY afternoon saw Claremont manage to hold off East Fremantle in a one-point thriller in Round 5 of the WAFL Women's competition while Subiaco kept its impressive form going on Sunday morning. Round 5 of the 2019 Optus WAFLW Premiership Season saw the two matches spread over two days this WA Day long weekend. The first contest took place at Claremont Oval on Saturday afternoon with Claremont holding on to beat East Fremantle 4.5 (29) to 4.4 (28) despite going scoreless in the final quarter and the Sharks kicking three goals. WAFLW All-Stars named for Exhibition Games

A WAFL Women’s All-Star squad has been selected for upcoming Exhibition Games against the AFLW WA 18s and Queensland. The first Exhibition Game will be played during this weekend’s WAFLW general bye, with the WAFLW All-Stars to play the AFLW WA 18s at 1.45pm on Saturday, June 8 at New Choice Homes Park, East Fremantle. The second Exhibition Game will be played during the next WAFLW general bye on July 20 against Queensland at 2pm at Steel Blue Oval, Bassendean. Optus WAFL Round 8 Wrap

THE WA Day long weekend saw the five WAFL matches spread across three days beginning with a nail-biting Perth win on Saturday before Claremont and Subiaco won solidly on Sunday and then in two tremendous traditional derbies, South Fremantle and East Perth were victorious. The WA Day Round is traditionally the biggest occasion of the home and away season any WAFL campaign, and certainly with the five contests across the three days the 2019 version was no different. Round 5 Optus WAFLW Preview

THERE is a game each on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning in the WAFL Women's 2019 Optus Premiership Season with Claremont, East Fremantle and Subiaco looking to consolidate a top two spot, and Peel Thunder hunting their first win. It has been a fascinating opening four rounds of the inaugural WAFLW season and that has seen the top four teams East Fremantle, Subiaco, Swan Districts and Claremont all win two games apiece across the opening month. Peel Thunder might not have won a game yet but they have been competitive as well meaning there has been little separating the five teams in the competition which was a big reason why the league was started with the five teams to create for a tremendously competitive season. THERE were two heart stoppers in the Simply Energy Colts in Round 7 with Perth and Peel Thunder scoring thrilling victories by under a goal while East Perth and Claremont were the others to taste the winning feeling on Saturday. WA Football welcomes new healthy eating partnership

The West Australian Football Commission has welcomed a new two-year, $400,000 partnership with Healthway to promote the Go for 2&5 healthy eating message and provide healthier eating choices at junior clubs. Healthway joining as Principal Partner of junior football in WA will increase access to nutritious food and drink choices at junior football canteens, with clubs to receive access to training and support from the WA School Canteen Association to review their menus, and make any changes in line with nutrition guidelines. IT was quite the dramatic Round 7 in the WAFL on Saturday with Mitch Peirce and Zac Strom kicking the match-winners with the last kicks of their games for West Perth and South Fremantle respectively with impressive wins also for Subiaco, Swan Districts and East Fremantle. All five matches in Round 7 of the WAFL took place on Saturday afternoon with players delivering some scintillating individual performances and teams combining to play out some thrillers, and there ending up being some upset results. Swan Districts returned to the winner's list and ended a nine-game losing streak at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval with a 10.10 (70) to 7.14 (56) victory over the West Coast Eagles with Matt Riggio delivering a best on ground performance. WAFC congratulates AFL Mid-Season Draftees

The West Australian Football Commission congratulates the four players selected in the 2019 AFL Mid-Season Draft, including number one selection Josh Deluca from Subiaco Football Club, and each of the WAFL clubs that have played a key role in their development. Deluca, who was selected by Carlton, was followed by Jack Mayo (Subiaco) at number 8 to St. Kilda, Dillon O’Reilly (East Fremantle) at number 11 to Fremantle and Marlion Pickett (South Fremantle) at number 13 to Richmond.
