Falcons ready for redemption against Bulldogs

Friday, September 14, 2018 - 5:34 AM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth left Fremantle Community Bank Oval two weeks ago hoping to get a chance for redemption against South Fremantle and that opportunity presents in Sunday's preliminary final and a Grand Final spot just happens to be on the line. The qualifying final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval couldn’t have gone much worse for West Perth two weeks ago with South Fremantle kicking 15 of the last 16 goals of the game on the way to a 98-point victory. It was also a ninth straight win for the Bulldogs against the Falcons, but what West Perth had to focus on was bouncing back last week in a cut-throat first semi-final against Claremont at Joondalup Arena. Bulldogs not taking Falcons lightly with Grand Final at stake

Thursday, September 13, 2018 - 5:09 PM - by Chris Pike
THERE is no feeling of complacency whatsoever for South Fremantle despite having the wood over West Perth with the Bulldogs taking nothing for granted coming into Sunday's WAFL TABtouch preliminary final with a spot in the Grand Final at stake. South Fremantle might have won its past nine matches against West Perth including a 98-point thumping just two weeks ago in the qualifying final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, but South Fremantle coach Todd Curley knows that all counts for little heading into Sunday. With a Grand Final spot at Optus Stadium against Subiaco at stake for the winner of Sunday's preliminary final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, Curley knows that past history won't be on the minds of any of the 44 players when the scores start at zero. Deluca hopes to help end Subiaco Grand Final pain

Thursday, September 13, 2018 - 4:17 PM - by Chris Pike
DESPITE having played in three of the past four WAFL premierships, Josh Deluca couldn’t be more motivated to help Subiaco to the 2018 flag to cap a perfect season and he is excited at the chance of doing that on Optus Stadium. Deluca was a young small forward in the Subiaco premiership team of 2014 before ending up being picked up by the Fremantle Dockers and over the past three years he did manage four AFL matches, but at Peel Thunder he played in the past two Grand Finals wins over the Lions. That makes him a 22-year-old who already is a triple WAFL premiership player and has turned himself from a clever small forward, to a hard-bodied, tough and prolific ball winning inside midfielder on his return to Subiaco in 2018. THE Subiaco colts have won straight through to the 2018 WAFL Grand Final at Optus Stadium leaving Swan Districts and Peel Thunder to now battle it out against one another for the right to face them. Subiaco joined the 2018 WAFL Finals Series on Sunday having earned the week off because of finishing on top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season to earn the minor premiership. With Subiaco's reserves and league teams also earning the minor premierships for 2018, that meant that Leederville Oval played host to all three second semi-final match ups on Sunday with the winner of each contest to advance directly to the 2018 WAFL Grand Finals at Optus Stadium. Tuesday, September 11, 2018 - 10:45 AM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth turned things around from a thumping the previous week and put Claremont right back in its place with a 53-point win in the first semi-final at Joondalup Arena on Saturday to advance to the preliminary final. The form of West Perth and Claremont couldn’t have been more contrasting from the opening week of the 2018 WAFL Finals Series, but to the Falcons' credit, they were able to turn things around in supremely impressive fashion in Sunday's first semi-final at Joondalup Arena. After finishing the season in third position, West Perth was blown away by South Fremantle in the qualifying final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval leaving the Falcons with plenty of work to do to turn things around eight days later to keep their season alive. Match Reports - TABtouch Semi Finals

Monday, September 10, 2018 - 8:15 AM - by Chris Pike
SUBIACO went ever so close to having all three grades straight into the 2018 WAFL Grand Finals on Sunday but its reserves were overrun by East Perth as the Lions' league and colts teams advanced and West Perth set up a preliminary final with South Fremantle in the process. Subiaco's colts, reserves and league teams all finished as minor premiers for 2018 earning the right to hose three second semi-final match ups at Leederville Oval on Sunday. The day began well for the Lions with the colts beating Swan Districts and then the reserves kicked the first eight goals against East Perth. But remarkably the Royals stormed home to overrun the Lions and score a dramatic win to book a place straight in the Grand Final. Read More ...

First Semi-Final Preview – West Perth v Claremont

Sunday, September 9, 2018 - 1:05 AM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth and Claremont fight for survival in Sunday's first semi-final at Joondalup Arena on Sunday and given the recent history of nail-biters between the two teams of late, expect no different this time around. The Falcons and Tigers remarkably have only been separated by an average of 10 points throughout their last 17 meetings and now in a cut-throat first semi-final on Sunday, things go up another level between two teams that seem to bring the best out of one another. The game will take place on a hectic Sunday at the Joondalup venue as well with the Perth Wildcats playing the Adelaide 36ers in an NBL pre-season fixture at HBF Arena's new basketball stadium as part of the redevelopment at Joondalup Arena.
