10 WAFL players invited to AFL National Draft Combine

Ten WAFL players have been invited to undertake testing at the NAB AFL National Draft Combine from Tuesday October 3 to Friday October 6. Nine of the players are from the Deppro WA State 18s squad, including co-captains Oscar Allen and Aaron Naughton, and AFL Academy members Jake Patmore and Sam Taylor. South Fremantle midfielder Tim Kelly, pictured, who turns 23 today, has also been invited to the National Combine after impressing for the WAFL State Team in their historic win over the VFL in May.  The Draft Combine will assess each player’s strength and skills through a number of tests including standing vertical jump, agility tests and running tasks. Survey: AFL Auskick for children of all abilities

The AFL and Deakin University are conducting an online survey to find out what parents, children and sporting coaches feel are the benefits and barriers to participation in NAB AFL Auskick around Australia for children of all abilities, in particular, children with physical and developmental disabilities and challenges. EAST Perth and South Fremantle split thrilling WAFL Reserves and Colts matches at Leederville Oval on Saturday while Perth scored an important Reserves win and East Fremantle remains atop the Colts despite having the Round 18 bye. The three reserves matches on Saturday saw South Fremantle defeat East Perth 12.7 (79) to 10.16 (76) at Leederville Oval, Perth down West Perth 14.12 (96) to 12.6 (78) at Lathlain Park and Subiaco beat Peel Thunder 13.10 (88) to 12.7 (79) at Bendigo Bank Stadium. A COUPLE of West Perth big men combined for 13 goals while a midfielder racked up 51 possessions, Subiaco's back-line was instrumental in its 15th consecutive victory and another five goals from a South Fremantle forward were all part of the standout WAFL Round 18 performances. There were just the three matches in Round 18 of the WAFL with South Fremantle claiming a fifth straight victory beating East Perth 18.13 (121) to 14.7 (91) at Busselton's Sir Stewart Bovell Park with Blaine Johnson kicking five goals and Shane Hockey collecting 30 possessions. West Perth also returned to the winner's list after losing four straight matches to beat Perth for a 13th straight time, winning 18.18 (126) to 11.7 (73) at Lathlain Park with Shane Nelson racking up 51 disposals, Tyler Keitel kicking seven goals and Nick Rodda six. Football program opens doors for multicultural students

Six students from diverse backgrounds have experienced the most amazing football journey. North Lake Senior campus students Michael Hlungupi (Zimbabwe), John Kuch (South Sudan), Jonathan Gakona (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Patrick Jerome (DRC), James Moses (South Sudan) and Mohammad Ali (Afghanistan) arrived in Australian less than two years ago and knew nothing about Australian Football. WAFL 'Real Men Wear Pink' Round

The West Australian Football League’s ‘Real Men Wear Pink’ Round supporting breast cancer research will be held across all four Round 19 League games this Saturday, July 29.   The round will be played in partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s ‘Real Men Wear Pink’ campaign and expands on last year’s initiative by Claremont Football Club to support the cause by playing in a jumper with a pink sash instead of the club’s traditional yellow. SUBIACO won a 15th straight match this season taking care of Peel Thunder in the WAFL grand final rematch in Round 18 on Saturday with South Fremantle claiming a fifth consecutive victory and West Perth snapping a four-game losing run. There were just the three matches in Round 18 of the 2017 WAFL season with East Fremantle, Claremont and Swan Districts having the bye, but all had plenty at stake for the six teams involved. WA Integrated State Team announced

Sixteen players from across the West Australian Amateur Football League’s (WAAFL) Integrated Program will represent Western Australia in the AFL National Inclusion Carnival to be held on the Gold Coast from July 24-29. This year will mark the first time all states and territories will be represented in the week-long carnival. Greg Harding standing down as Swan Districts coach

Swan Districts Football Club Senior coach Greg Harding will stand down from his position at the end of the 2017 season after seven strong years of leadership and development at the Club. Harding cited personal reasons for his decision to not continue beyond 2017 and said: “I have made the difficult decision to step down from the senior coaching position at SDFC at the end of this 2017 season. In doing so, I firmly believe the decision is timely and during a period when the club is progressing strongly both on and off the field. “My announcement prior to the end of the season will provide the club with important time to source and employ the best possible candidate to lead Swans into 2018 and beyond.
