Deppro WA State 18s finish Championship runners-up

The Deppro WA State 18s finished second on percentage to Victoria Metro following the conclusion of the 2017 NAB AFL National Championships in Melbourne today. WA defeated Victoria Country by 29 points at Etihad Stadium last Friday June 30 to claim three wins from four games and were in contention to claim the championship going in to today's final round with the bye, depending on the result of Victoria Metro's game against the Allies. Despite Victoria Metro losing to the Allies by three points and finishing level with WA on three wins, they claimed the national title on percentage after defeating WA by 38 points in Round 2. Vote for an outstanding AFL School Ambassador

NOW is the time to recognise teachers who have run outstanding Australian Football programs in their schools as part the AFL School Ambassador of the Year awards. Two deserving winners will claim a trip for two to a 2017 AFL Finals game in Melbourne including flights and accommodation. WAFC awards grants for footy gear

STUDENTS from 34 schools will be better equipped on the football field after receiving a grant from the West Australian Football Commission. Jumper grants were awarded to 22 schools across Western Australia as part of the WAFC’s Resource Assistance Scheme to purchase a new set of jumpers from Burley Sekem. Six schools, including O’Connor Primary School in Kalgoorlie, also received a grant for goal post padding, while another six received a $1000 subsidy for new goal posts. Read More ...

Mundella 18s set for second round of championship

A squad of 26 players will represent Western Australia in the second round of the NAB AFLW 18s National Championships in Queensland from July 8 – 14. WA plays off against Victoria Metro at the Gold Coast's Bond University on Monday, July 10, to open the round before heading to Broadbeach to take on the Allies and Victoria Country. WAFL players don special NAIDOC Round jumpers

The West Australian Football League, in partnership with Rio Tinto, will celebrate the contributions that the Aboriginal community has made and continues to make to WA football when WAFL NAIDOC Round is held this Saturday, July 8. All WAFL clubs playing in the Round will wear uniforms designed to represent the heritage of the club and their Aboriginal players and for the first time two WA Women’s Football League teams will also don NAIDOC designed jumpers. Toyota kicking goals for grassroots football clubs

A total of $48,500 will be donated to grassroots football clubs following Round 14 of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season thanks to Toyota’s Good for Footy Program. For each of the 97 goals kicked during the four Round 14 matches broadcast by Channel 7, Toyota is donating $500 to the AFL player’s nominated grassroots football club. Round 15 Reserves and Colts Wrap

EAST Fremantle beat East Perth in a REDiMED Colts thriller on Saturday to claim top spot from Peel Thunder while Claremont geared up for its clash with the Reserves leading South Fremantle this week with a good win over Peel in Round 15. The Round 15 reserves results in the horrible conditions saw Subiaco beat West Perth 6.14 (50) to 6.6 (42) at HBF Arena, East Fremantle defeat East Perth 11.7 (73) to 4.11 (35) at Leederville Oval, Claremont down Peel Thunder 8.17 (65) to 4.7 (31) at Bendigo Bank Stadium and Swan Districts prevail 8.6 (54) to 3.11 (29) over Perth at Lathlain Park. Students learn life skills through football

The Year 8 group at Aquinas College has finished Term 2 on a high, with a thrilling Grand Final football match as part of an intensive football-focused SEPEP, or Sport Education program, delivered in partnership with the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC). The SEPEP football coaching and umpiring program was created by the WAFC and Aquinas College last year with the aim to enhance student learning through sport. The program is designed to mirror the ‘real life’ football environment and includes sessions on competition management, drafting, rules and guidelines, media and match reporting. Read More ...


Social female football carnival - be a part of the fun!

Due to recent success, the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) will host its third social female football carnival for women aged 18 years and over this Sunday at City Beach Oval. More than 170 women attended last month's carnival held in Bentley which featured round-robin structured football games played on smaller sized fields, with modified rules. This weekend’s carnival will commence at 9am and run through to 12pm. There will be music, bouncy castles for the kids and much more! The carnival, developed by the WAFC, provides an entry-level competition for women who are wanting to play football in a social and less-competitive game environment. Read More ...

HORRIBLE weather conditions on Saturday set the scene for Subiaco's Kyal Horsley and Leigh Kitchin, Swan Districts' David Ellard and Adam Faulkner, Claremont's Jye Bolton and East Perth's Patrick McGinnity to shine, but it was a string of big men and a Peel premiership defender who also starred. The worst weather of the season greeted all eight clubs in the four games on Saturday afternoon but it did produce some fascinating and important results. Subiaco held off West Perth at HBF Arena to win 6.11 (47) to 4.12 (36). It was a 12th straight win for the Lions on the back of strong midfield efforts from Horsley and Kitchin.  Read More ...

THE worst weather conditions of the WAFL season to date greeted the teams involved in Round 15 action on Saturday with Subiaco making it 12 straight, Peel Thunder three straight, Swan Districts two in-a-row and East Perth winning big to stay in the finals hunt. Wet, cold and windy conditions might have limited the goal scoring and free-flowing play across the four matches on Saturday in Round 15 of the 2017 season, but it certainly didn’t minimise the drama, competitiveness or intrigue with three of the games going right down to the wire. West Perth hosted its annual International Football Festival at HBF Arena with the terrible weather conditions meaning the crowd that has regularly turned out for the event was kept away, but the Falcons and Subiaco still put in another tough and bruising affair. The Deppro WA State 18s defeated Victoria Country by 29 points in their final game of the 2017 NAB AFL National Championships at Etihad Stadium on Friday June 30. In a great team effort, WA got off to a strong start and fought off a Vic Country comeback in the second half to see their hard work pay off with their third win of the four-round Championships. WA were led by hard running from Jake Patmore (32 disposals), Brayden Ainsworth (27), Tom Joyce (22) and Callan England (22), as well as great rebound from defense by co-captain Aaron Naughton and Jaxon Cahill and a solid all-round contribution from Brandon Starcevich (22 disposals and 8 tackles).
