SUBIACO returned to the top of the WAFL with a win on Saturday with South Fremantle losing while West Perth consolidated third and stayed in the top two race as East Perth winning, East Fremantle losing and Peel Thunder having the bye kept things interesting. West Perth and East Fremantle did battle over third spot at HBF Arena on Saturday with the home team celebrating its 1941 premiership with the Cardinals beating Old Easts 17.20 (122) to 7.10 (52). East Perth stayed in the finals race with a 12.14 (86) to 9.16 (70) victory over South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval while Subiaco defeated Swan Districts 16.13 (109) to 11.9 (75) at Medibank Stadium and Perth downed Claremont 10.16 (76) to 11.6 (72) at the Showground. State 16s convincing winners over Victoria Country

The DEPPRO WA State 16s recorded an impressive 43-point win over Victoria Country at Metricon Stadium in Round 2 of the AFL National 16s Championships on Monday, July 4. Lead by a dominant game from captain Rylie Morgan which included 34 disposals, 8 clearances and 7 inside 50s, WA outscored Vic Metro five goals to two in the first quarter and extended their lead each quarter to win 13.16-94 to 7.9-51. Livewire forwards Ian Hill and Sydney Stack led the way on the scoreboard with seven goals between them, while ruckman Xavier Peacock had 21 hit-outs to give WA first use of the ball. Read More ...


Kym Curnow Medal to honour country great

Esperance Farmer Kym “Freddy” Curnow’s courage and service to football will be honoured by the West Australian Country Football League and CBH Group when the Kym Curnow Medal is presented to the best player in the CBH Group Country Colts Division of the upcoming Landmark Country Championships. Kym Curnow died on November 17, 2015 while fighting fires and warning people to evacuate the fire area only a short distance from his farm in Scaddan, north of Esperance. Kym was a successful farmer at Scaddan for more than 28 years and played football for the Gibson Football Club. He is survived by his wife Roseanne and three children Tom, Riley and Emma. SOUTH Fremantle and Subiaco both play teams outside the top five in Round 15 of the WAFL as they continue to battle over top spot with East Perth looking to stay alive in the finals race and West Perth and East Fremantle trying to return to the winner's list. All four Round 15 WAFL matches take place on Saturday afternoon with West Perth hosting East Fremantle at HBF Arena as both teams attempt to bounce back from disappointing losses to consolidate themselves in the top five. East Perth is the team outside the top five with a chance of still breaking in but the Royals take on the league-leading South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the Bulldogs needing to win to remain on top. Subiaco could return to the top with a loss for South Fremantle with the Lions facing the bottom placed Swan Districts at Medibank Stadium while Claremont plays Perth at the Claremont Showground. English, Fisher named All-Australians

Deppro WA State 18s ruckman Tim English and midfielder Zac Fisher were named All-Australians at the conclsuion of the AFL National 18s Championships this week. Fisher, from Perth Football Club, also won WA's MVP award after starring in the midfield with his pace, skill and ability to push forward and finish in front of goal. English, from South Fremantle, showcased his talent in the ruck for WA and great mobility around the ground, where he used his athleticism to make a great impact on contests and take some strong overhead marks. Round 17 fixture added to TV schedule

The Round 17 derby between East Perth and West Perth at Medibank Stadium has been added to the 7 Network broadcast schedule on Saturday, July 16. Coverage will commence on 7mate from 1.30pm, with bouncedown at 1.40pm. WAFC CEO Gavin Taylor said that televising an East Perth v West Perth marquee Derby was a great outcome for the competition. Hard work defines Tedesco as he reaches 150 at Falcons

WEST Perth premiership defender and former captain Luke Tedesco had to work hard and wait a while to reach his 150th game and earn life membership at the Falcons, but after a career based on dedication and hard work it only adds to the legacy he will leave behind. Tedesco made his debut for West Perth in 2007 and over his 149 games up until Round 6 this year he had become one of the Falcons most reliable, committed and important players. He might not have had the natural talents of his good friend Andrew Strijk who is now nearing 200 games and is a premiership teammate from 2013, but Tedesco has worked as hard as anybody and been as consistent and committed to get the absolute most out of himself. WESTERN AUSTRALIA might have lost its final match against Division 1 champions Victoria Metro in the NAB AFL National Championships but not without some exciting moments including a spectacular mark by Josh Rotham and star performance by Sam Petrevski-Seton. WA's final match of the 2016 championships took place on Wednesday at Geelong's Simonds Stadium with Vic Metro winning 12.9 (81) to 8.10 (58) to claim the Division 1 title for 2016. The WA State 18s team opened the championships with an impressive 61-point win over Victoria Country at Domain Stadium before suffering a 37-point defeat at the hands of South Australia at AAMI Stadium. Fisher claims Deppro State 18s MVP Award

Talented Perth Football Club midfielder Zac Fisher was named WA MVP at the conclusion of the AFL National 18s Championships today. Fisher was among WA's best in their final game of the Championships against Victoria Metro at Simonds Stadium in Geelong today, collecting 17 disposals, laying five tackles and kicking a goal during WA's 23 point loss 8.10 (58) to 12.9 (81). WA had early chances to make an impact against eventual champions Victoria Metro, entering the attacking 50 without reward in the opening quarter before Fisher finally found an avenue to goal in the second quarter. SOUTH Fremantle and Subiaco shot further clear on top of the WAFL with strong wins on Saturday with the other three top five teams losing as Perth and Swan Districts scored confidence-boosting victories. South Fremantle returned to the top of the ladder just on percentage with a 16.6 (102) to 9.13 (67) victory over West Perth at HBF Arena. That ended the Falcons' seven-game winning run with the Bulldogs setting up the victory with the first seven goals of the second half. Subiaco might have dropped to second spot but it was a strong win over Claremont all the same with the Lions beating the Tigers 15.11 (101) to 11.9 (75) at Medibank Stadium on the back of an eight-goal to two second quarter.
