Bulldogs with too much bite for Falcons to open season

Saturday, March 21, 2015 - 5:42 PM - by Chris Pike
SOUTH Fremantle and West Perth both entered the 2015 McDonald's WAFL Premiership season with hopes of returning to the finals this season and after Friday night's 35-point win it appears the Bulldogs are right on track to do so. South Fremantle hasn’t played in the finals since 2011 but sent a message that it is ready to fire in 2015 under new coach Todd Curley with the 14.6 (90) to 8.7 (55) in front of a crowd of 2370 at Fremantle Oval on Friday night. West Perth missed the finals in 2014 coming off the premiership in 2013, but still has the majority of those who played in that flag in its squad and will be confident that the disappointing start to the new season on Friday night will be quickly rectified. Fitting debut as Bulldogs coach for Curley against Falcons

Thursday, March 19, 2015 - 6:01 PM - by Chris Pike
TODD Curley has never previously been involved in any WAFL club bar West Perth so it's only fitting that his debut as South Fremantle coach this Friday night at Fremantle Oval comes against the Falcons. Curley did play in the AFL with both Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs, but when it comes to the WAFL he played his entire career with West Perth and his first stint as a senior coach was also with the Falcons. Now after some time away from football for the first time in more than two decades following a stint as assistant coach with the Fremantle Dockers, Curley is returning to senior coaching ranks in the WAFL and this time he has taken over at South Fremantle. West Perth focus on finding more avenues to goal in 2015

Thursday, March 19, 2015 - 4:34 PM - by Chris Pike
WEST Perth coach Bill Monaghan realised the Falcons didn’t kick enough goals in 2014 and he is confident that will change in 2015 with a good mix of talls and smalls in the forward-line for his team to try and do just that. With a combination of Nick Rodda, Marcus Adams, Michael Lourey, Max Alexander and Shayne Zanetti providing tall options, Matt Fowler, Matt Johnson, Luke Meadows and Kody Manning as mid-size options and then Corey Chalmers, Chris Franklin, Steve Potente, Marc Crisp and Brayden Antonio as small forwards, that looks to be a forward-line capable of plenty of goals in 2015. West Perth was able to finish the 2014 WAFL season with a strong percentage of 112.43 to have the third strongest in the league behind only grand finalists East Perth and Subiaco, but that was largely because of the Falcons' defence. Arrivals, returnees have Tigers ready to prowl

Thursday, March 19, 2015 - 10:55 AM - by Chris Pike
CLAREMONT roared home late in the 2014 WAFL season to only narrow miss playing finals football which led into the retirement of a host of stars, but the Tigers have welcome some premiership stars back, signed other key players and are looking to fire in 2015. It was a rollercoaster 2014 season for Claremont in Michael Broadbridge's first season as coach with the Tigers starting slowly losing six of their first eight matches by an average of 11 goals to appear more of a contender for the wooden spoon than a finals position. However, things began to turn around with a terrific WA Day win over eventual premiers Subiaco and despite tight losses to West Perth and East Perth after that, the Tigers were building something. ONE OF the biggest mistakes you can make as a coach is grouping people together and thinking they will all interpret your message exactly how you want them to.
