WA Black secured the first victory of the WA’s two NAB AFL U18s All-Stars Exhibition games, after defeating WA Gold by 55-points at Leederville Oval on Saturday morning. The WA Black side led at every change to dominant the Exhibition fixture, led by starring roles from Claremont’s Joel Western and West Perth’s Heath Chapman.   It took until the thirteenth minute of the opening quarter for the first goal of the game, when WA Black’s Nick Martin was able to find Logan Guelfi inside attacking 50. TRUE to his word before Sunday's WAFL Grand Final, what South Fremantle coach Todd Curley takes greatest satisfaction from becoming a premiership coach is giving his players the chance to now celebrate, but he deserves to be proud of what he's accomplished too. The group of people to have played more than 100 AFL matches, almost 150 games in the WAFL, play in two premierships and now be a senior coach for almost another 200 games and having spent several seasons as an AFL assistant coach is a remarkably short one. THE Simply Energy WA State U18s squad is set to play its two NAB AFL U18s All Stars Exhibition games on October 10 and 17. Given the NAB AFL U18 National Championhips were cancelled for season 2020 due to COVID-19, each state is hosting its own set of fixtures to showcase talent before the AFL Draft later this year.   Game one will be played at Leederville Oval on Saturday October 10, starting at 11.30am. Seven WAFL Women's players have been added to AFLW lists following the AFLW National Draft on Tuesday, October 6. This included two first round selections, with Isabella Lewis (Claremont) being selected with pick 3 by West Coast, and Sarah Verrier (Peel Thunder) going to Fremantle at pick 14. IN front of a remarkable atmosphere generated from a sold out crowd at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, South Fremantle is back on top of the WAFL world winning a classic Grand Final against Claremont by three points. The stage was always set for a memorable day at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and a monster crowd of 10,179 turned out to create an occasion that nobody in attendance will ever forget. JACK Clarke Medallist Lachlan Vanirsen continued to put his name up in lights with a brilliant Simply Energy Colts Grand Final for Subiaco to inspire the Lions to the premiership triumph against Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. Claremont might have finished the home and away season on top of the colts ladder and then defeated Subiaco in the second semi-final to move straight into the Grand Final, but on Sunday it was the Lions who proved too strong. EAST Perth has backed up its dominant WAFL Reserves season by putting together an impressive Grand Final performance on Sunday to beat Claremont by 29 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. East Perth ended the home and away season on top of the ladder in the reserves before winning straight through to the Grand Final with a 26-point win over Subiaco in the second semi-final. Claremont then made its way to the Grand Final with a preliminary final win also over the Lions to give the Tigers a shot at history to win all three grades in the one season for the first time in club history. TODD Curley knows what it feels like to be a premiership player and what he wants more than anything is to help his South Fremantle players find out what it's like by winning Sunday's WAFL Grand Final. Curley had an outstanding playing career both in the WAFL with West Perth and AFL at the Western Bulldogs. He didn’t quite get the chance at premiership glory in the AFL during his 115 games at the Bulldogs but he did in the WAFL with West Perth in both 1995 and 2003. He has now put together an outstanding coaching career too that started with three years at West Perth which included a preliminary final appearance in 2008, and now in his sixth season at South Fremantle he is in a second Grand Final to go with three other preliminary final berths. HE is a premiership captain and coach himself, and his skipper has two WAFL flags to his credit, but he has no premiership teammates left in the Claremont team with coach Darren Harris in no doubt his group is 'unbelievably hungry' to change that. Harris is no stranger to Grand Final glory having being the premiership captain and Simpson Medallist at West Perth in 1995 before then being the coach of the Falcons team that was triumphant in 2003.
