ROUND 4 in the Optus WAFL Premiership Season saw teams make some statements with the top four breaking away from the pack but there were no shortage of standout individual performers either. Round 4 in the 2020 WAFL season saw West Perth beat East Perth 12.9 (81) to 8.1 (49), Perth overcome East Fremantle 10.4 (64) to 8.10 (58), Claremont defeat Peel Thunder 8.10 (58) to 5.5 (35), and then South Fremantle beat Subiaco 15.7 (97) to 7.5 (47). Those results leave South Fremantle (4-0) clear on top of the ladder and then West Perth (3-1), Claremont (3-1) and Perth (3-0) rounding out the top four after their victories. Read More ...


Footy community urged to help Darcy

Hamersley-Carine Football Club is leading a fundraising effort and encouraging everyone to get tested as a bone marrow donor for 4-year-old footy-lover Darcy Keeley. Darcy, who is the nephew of Club President John Keeley, is being treated for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and needs a bone marrow transplant to survive - but so far, there's been no matches. Described as one of the club’s most loyal, passionate and enthusiastic supporters, Darcy requires six months of intensive chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant. Read More ...


Optus WAFLW Round 4 Wrap

SUBIACO maintained its undefeated start to the 2020 Optus WAFL Women's Premiership season while last year's wooden spooners Peel Thunder continued to impress and Swan Districts won the Grand Final rematch. It was a fascinating weekend in the WAFLW competition with Subiaco and Peel Thunder now separating from the pack ahead of their tantalising match up next Saturday in Mandurah. The round's action got underway on Saturday morning at Leederville Oval with South Fremantle playing its first ever road game in the competition. Optus WAFL Round 4 Wrap

ROUND 4 in the WAFL saw wins for South Fremantle, Claremont, Perth and West Perth with those four teams making up the top four and with Subiaco having the job ahead of them in their quest for a premiership hat-trick. Now after four rounds of the 2020 Optus WAFL Premiership Season with some teams already having played four matches which means they've reached the halfway mark, there's a two-game gap between those in the top four and those outside. With the reigning premiers of the past two years, minor premiers of the last five seasons and winners of four of the past six premierships Subiaco one of those teams with just one win and sitting outside the top four, it sets up a fascinating race to the finals for 2020. Round 4 Optus WAFLW Preview

ROUND 4 in the Optus WAFL Women's Premiership Season sees the unbeaten Subiaco host the winless South Fremantle on Saturday before the other four teams all lock horns on Sunday afternoon. There are only seven rounds in the 2020 Optus WAFLW season meaning that by Sunday evening we will already be past the halfway mark as the race for the top four positions heats up. With each team playing seven matches before the final spots are decided with the top four going through, Subiaco is already in a box seat with three wins on the board while Claremont and Peel Thunder have two wins each heightening the importance of their game with one another. WINS are now to become increasingly valuable just four rounds into the 2020 Optus WAFL Premiership Season as the race for a top four finish in a nine-round season heats up this Saturday afternoon. Round 4 in the 2020 WAFL season sees all four matches once again take place on Saturday afternoon and it includes a massive Perth Derby between West Perth and East Perth at Joondalup's Provident Financial Oval. Then at East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park, there's sure to be plenty of feeling as former Demon Cody Leggett lines up for East Fremantle against Perth for the first time in a match of great significance for both clubs. Girls Footy Leading the Way

The Morley Bulldogs Junior Football Club initiated a fantastic game day initiative over the weekend by creating a ‘Spirit of Football’ award for their Year 7/8 Girls opposition side in Coolbinia Bombers Junior Football Club.   As part of the award, the Morley Year 7/8 Girls Team signed a leather football and presented it to the opposition teams player that showed the best spirit for the whole game.    Morley JFC President Ross Condo said “Adam Paige leads the way in creating positive game day environments, and has delivered many initiatives with the girls teams over the past few years”. Johanson set to make AFL umpiring debut

Field Umpire Dan Johanson from the West Perth Junior Umpiring District will make his AFL debut in the Fremantle v Hawthorn Match at Optus Stadium on Monday, August 10. Johanson was elevated to the AFL Field Umpiring list for 2020 after spending the 2019 AFL Season as a Rookie. He was also part of the AFLW Umpiring team in 2018 and 2019. He umpired 70 senior WAFL games between 2014 and 2019, including last year's WAFL Grand Final at Optus Stadium. Read More ...

IT was a fascinating Round 3 of the 2020 WAFL Premiership Season as spots in the Team of the Round for individuals and for teams in the top four are both becoming increasingly heated. Round 3 in the WAFL saw all four matches again take place on Saturday afternoon starting with Subiaco getting its first win of 2020 against Swan Districts 11.13 (79) to 6.4 (40) at Steel Blue Oval. East Perth also opened its account beating East Fremantle 15.9 (99) to 8.8 (56) while West Perth beat Peel Thunder 20.11 (131) to 5.9 (39) and South Fremantle remained unbeaten downing Claremont 7.6 (48) to 5.10 (40). Simply Energy WAFL Colts Weekly Wrap Round 3

In round 3 of the Simply Energy WAFL Colts competition, there were a host of great individual and team performances alike. This round saw East Fremantle (8.10.58) defeat East Perth (7.5.47); Claremont (16.12.108) beat South Fremantle (2.5.17); West Perth (19.10.124) win against Peel (7.4.46); and Subiaco (17.8.110) secure victory over Swan Districts (6.9.45). SUBIACO and Claremont continue to be the two teams leading the way to date early in the 2020 Optus WAFL Women's Premiership season, but Peel Thunder are also showing they are more than capable after knocking off the reigning premiers. Round 3 in the 2020 WAFLW season got underway on Saturday afternoon at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval and in a rematch of last year's preliminary final, Subiaco got a measure of revenge over Swan Districts. THINGS are starting to take shape just three rounds into the 2020 Optus WAFL Premiership Season and all of a sudden wins on Saturday for South Fremantle and Subiaco sets the stage for a tantalising Grand Final rematch. Round 3 in the WAFL got underway on Saturday afternoon with the early starting game between Swan Districts and Subiaco at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval. Hancock adds 100 games to premiership in dream Peel career

BECOMING a premiership player with Peel Thunder was nothing but a wild dream as Ben Hancock rose through the club's ranks, but he's now ticked that off and on the way to 100 WAFL games become one of the league's most underappreciated consistent performers. Hancock could very well be the most underrated player to reach 100 games currently in the competition for how important and consistent a role he continues to play with the Thunder. With good size and athleticism, and his running ability perhaps the greatest asset, Hancock has now built a career for himself as a hard-running defender and wingman, but that only goes part to the way of summing up what he's meant to the Thunder as he approaches his 100th game.
