McDonald's WAFL Round 23 Preview

Friday, August 28, 2015 - 4:19 PM - by Chris Pike
ROUND 23 of the WAFL season sees Claremont fighting for its place in the finals needing to beat West Perth to replace Swan Districts in the top five while Peel Thunder also needs to defeat South Fremantle to consolidate third position and a finals double chance. All focus will be on HBF Arena with Swan Districts having the bye and needing West Perth to beat Claremont to remain in the finals, while the only way the Tigers can replace Swans in fifth position is by handing the Falcons their first defeat at home this season. Peel Thunder can then guarantee third position and a finals double chance with a win over South Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium. If South Fremantle wins, then East Perth can claim third position from Peel if the Royals defeat Subiaco in the battle of the Medibank Stadium co-tenants. The other match in the last round then features the bottom two teams, East Fremantle and Perth at ATOM Stadium. Read More ...

Sharks skipper hopes for long overdue win in 200th game

Friday, August 28, 2015 - 12:27 AM - by Chris Pike
EAST Fremantle's season might have not gone to plan, but the Sharks will now look to finish on a positive note at ATOM Stadium on Saturday against Perth with captain Rory O'Brien celebrating his 200th WAFL game. East Fremantle might be heading into the clash with the wooden spoon bound Demons on a 12-game losing streak, but their skipper is one player who can hold his head high for the way he has continued to try and lead the Sharks from the front all season long. O'Brien could very well be on his way to winning another fairest and best award with East Fremantle that would give him four in five years at the Sharks after he moved from Peel Thunder where he also claimed two fairest and best awards during his 92-game career. Friday, August 28, 2015 - 12:00 AM - by Chris Pike
IAN Richardson adds another terrific achievement to a growing list of accolades at Claremont this Saturday, but it all takes a back seat to the Tigers needing to beat West Perth at HBF Arena in order to play finals. Richardson will play his 150th game with Claremont to earn life membership at the club he will forever be remembered as one of the most decorated players having starred in two premierships, won a fairest and best award, been leading goalkicker two times, representing Western Australia on six occasions and winning a Simpson Medal. Not only that, but the left-footed half-forward has been a favourite of the Tigers faithful ever since making his debut in 2008 and now the 27-year-old reaches the 150-game milestone this Saturday when Claremont hits HBF Arena in a must-win contest against West Perth. Retiring White reflects on Bulldogs career that almost went south

Friday, August 21, 2015 - 4:04 PM - by Chris Pike
SOUTH Fremantle life member and dual premiership star Craig White looks set to finish his decorated career against Peel Thunder and that could be a fitting end after it was only the efforts of Marty Atkins that saw him not play with the Mandurah-based club in the first place. Having grown up in Williams and having his parents live in Mandurah once he'd finished school at Aquinas College, White was weighing up whether or not to remain at South Fremantle or join Peel Thunder ahead of the 2004 WAFL season following the colts premiership. A meeting with Peel coach and former Geelong AFL champion Garry Hocking had him on the verge of agreeing to join the Thunder, but the efforts of Bulldogs games record holder and then football manager Atkins ended up seeing White remain at South Fremantle. THE WAFL finals start early this Saturday at Steel Blue Oval and Swan Districts coach Greg Harding has put it on his team to score 100 points if they want to beat Claremont and keep their 2015 hopes alive. South Fremantle dual premiership player Craig White announces retirement

Wednesday, August 19, 2015 - 12:42 PM - by Chris Pike
CRAIG White has announced his retirement after two premierships and earning life membership at South Fremantle, but he's not quite done yet with his sights on bowing out with wins against West Perth and Peel Thunder in what loom as the 191st and 192nd games of his glittering career. White committed to the Bulldogs in 2003 having moved to Perth from Williams and completing his schooling at Aquinas, and had a remarkable first three years playing in a colts premiership in 2003, reserves premiership in 2004 and then the league triumph in 2005. There was another premiership to come in 2009 and now White has announced that the 2015 season will be the last of his career that has included the two flags, him earning life membership, being a long-time part of the leadership group and vice-captain as well as captain on occasion, and one of the most consistent and versatile players in the competition.
