Friday, July 24, 2015 - 2:39 PM - by Chris Pike
INJURIES have meant his return to his original WAFL club Perth hasn’t gone to plan and now led to his retirement, but Hawthorn premiership star Chance Bateman has every reason to be proud of his career and remains confident the Demons are on the right path under Earl Spalding. Bateman came through the ranks at Perth and played 11 league games in 1999 as an 18-year-old before going on to make history in the AFL at Hawthorn during an outstanding 177-game career that included the 2008 premiership. Along the way, Bateman became the first Indigenous player to ever play 100 games with Hawthorn and became the first player of Aboriginal descent to become a life member at the Hawks. Read More ...

SOUTH Fremantle kicked the first four goals of the last quarter to secure a crucial win in the final derby of 2015 over East Fremantle with the Bulldogs returning to the WAFL's top five in the process. East Fremantle kicked five goals to two in the third quarter with the advantage of the breeze at ATOM Stadium to lead by 11 points at three quarter-time, but South Fremantle made the most of the breeze in the final term to kick the first four goals. Two of those came from tight angles courtesy of 17-year-old debutant Callum Ah Chee with Josh Pullman kicking truly from a set shot, and Cory Dell'Olio from a snap as the Bulldogs ended up winning 10.12 (72) to 9.10 (64). The win sees South Fremantle replace Claremont in fifth position on the WAFL ladder while also winning its sixth straight match at East Fremantle Oval, and stretching the run of visiting teams winning Fremantle derbies to 11. Thursday, July 16, 2015 - 6:08 PM - by Chris Pike
EAST Fremantle vice-captain Andrew Stephen isn’t hiding from the fact that the Sharks' current seven-game losing run has built the frustration levels at the club, but he's confident that a first win under caretaker coach Brad Dodd could come this Sunday against South Fremantle. The Sharks only missed making the grand final in 2014 due to poor kicking on goal in a preliminary final loss to Subiaco and then started 2015 well winning five of their first seven games. However, East Fremantle has now not won a game since losing its last seven with a change of coach in that time with Steve Malaxos parting ways with the club and Dodd taking over. Read More ...
