EAST Perth took another step towards the WAFL's minor premiership for 2014 with a big win in Saturday's Round 21 action while the second-placed Subiaco lost as did the third-placed Swan Districts with Claremont and South Fremantle continuing their good recent form as well. All four Round 21 WAFL matches took place on Saturday afternoon with East Perth thumping Perth 28.14 (182) to 14.6 (90) at Lathlain Park, Claremont beating Subiaco 11.11 (77) to 9.15 (69) at Leederville's Medibank Stadium and South Fremantle downing Swan Districts 18.7 (115) to 9.15 (69) at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval. The only game not featuring a finals bound side took place at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium with West Perth ending up beating Peel Thunder 9.14 (68) to 8.11 (59). Read More ...


West Perth stars Hunt and Tsalikis to retire at season's end

THE West Perth Football Club will lose two of its very best players at either end of the ground to retirement at the end of the 2014 WAFL season with Anthony Tsalikis and Dan Hunt calling time on their outstanding careers with the Falcons. Tsalikis and Hunt have been mainstays of the West Perth line-up for the past 10 years now with both passing the 150-game barrier to become life members of the club and holding down crucial roles at either end of the ground. Tsalikis will finish his career as West Perth's third largest goalscorer with him leading the club's goalkicking tally five times and while Hunt might have kicked just two goals in a decade, he has been outstanding in key defensive roles and continues to be one of the best defenders in the WAFL. THE third last round of the 2014 WAFL season takes place this Saturday afternoon with top playing bottom, two out of finals contention sides doing battle and then two finals bound teams taking on opponents out of the running. All four clashes will take place on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco playing Claremont at Leederville's Medibank Stadium, Swan Districts hosting South Fremantle at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval, Peel Thunder taking on West Perth at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium and Perth facing East Perth at Lathlain Park. THE seventh and eighth-placed teams produced the best contest of Round 20 of the WAFL on Saturday with Jarrod Pickett winning the game for South Fremantle over Peel Thunder with Claremont, East Fremantle and East Perth also recording wins of various importance. East Fremantle all but secured a finals appearance with a 9.11 (65) to 7.6 (48) win over West Perth at Joondalup's HBF Arena while Claremont beat Perth 17.8 (110) to 10.13 (73) at the Claremont Showground, East Perth defeated Swan Districts 14.22 (106) to 11.5 (71) in Bunbury and South Fremantle scored a stunning 13.17 (95) to 14.10 (94) victory over Peel at Fremantle Oval.
