Round 8 Preview - Claremont v Peel Thunder

CLAREMONT and Peel Thunder both look to arrest losing slides in the WAFL on Saturday when they meet on neutral turf at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. With Claremont Oval still unavailable due to its on-going redevelopment, Claremont is forced to shift another home game. This time the venue just happens to be Fremantle Community Bank Oval where Peel's contingent of Fremantle AFL players will feel right back at home. Claremont and Peel both started the 2017 season strongly, but haven’t been able to maintain it in recent weeks putting extra significance on the result on Saturday. Read More ...


Round 8 Preview - Swan Districts v Subiaco

SWAN Districts and Subiaco have been two of three dominant teams over the opening seven rounds of the 2017 season leading to what should be a tremendous contest at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday. Swans and the Lions both enter Saturday's clash with 5-1 records and there is the potential they end the round on top of the WAFL ladder with a victory if South Fremantle loses to Perth. WAFL Round 8 teams and previews

ROUND 8 of the WAFL sees all four matches take place on Saturday afternoon with Swan Districts and Subiaco meeting in a highly-anticipated match up while Claremont and Peel look to end losing runs and East Fremantle tries to open its account on a milestone day for a fine servant. The four matches all take place in the traditional 2.15pm time slot on Saturday afternoon and plenty is at stake in each of them. Swan Districts plays Subiaco at Steel Blue Oval with both teams entering the clash with impressive 5-1 records. If South Fremantle loses, the winner will move to the top of the ladder but either way they will be clear in second position as two impressive teams so far in 2017 try to make a statement. 2017 Carlton Draught WAFL State Squad

An initial Carlton Draught WAFL State Squad has been named for this year’s State Game against the Victorian Football League (VFL) at North Port Oval in Melbourne on Saturday, May 27. The game will be broadcast live in Perth on Channel 7 from 12pm WST on Saturday, May 27.   WA coach Michael Broadbridge and assistant coaches Paul Johnson, Steve Malaxos, Clay McLernon and Garry Moss have selected a squad of 37 players to participate in the State program over the next three weeks.   Broadbridge said players had been selected in consultation with their WAFL coaches based on current form in the roles that would be required to tackle the VFL at North Port Oval. Proud, loyal Shark Stephen to earn life membership with 150th game

HE is a Lynn Medallist, four-time state player and now Andrew Stephen plays his 150th game for East Fremantle on Saturday with it hard to imagine a more dedicated, committed and loyal servant earning life membership. Over the course of his 149-game career at East Fremantle that began with his league debut in 2008, Stephen has created a legacy that will have him remembered as one of the greatest servants of his proud football club. He will earn life membership by reaching 150 games this Saturday when East Fremantle takes on West Perth at East Fremantle Oval. Read More ...

Round 7 Reserves and Colts Wrap

THERE were again plenty of impressive performances in Round 7 on Saturday as Peel Thunder moved to the top of the REDiMED Colts while Perth continued to impress in the reserves. The three reserves matches on Saturday in Round 7 saw Claremont beat Swan Districts in a thriller 11.8 (74) to 11.7 (73) at Steel Blue Oval while Perth defeated West Perth 19.9 (123) to 10.11 (71) at HBF Arena and Peel Thunder downed East Perth 18.6 (114) to 8.14 (62) at Bendigo Bank Stadium. South Fremantle (5-1) remains on top of the reserves ladder but now only percentage ahead of Perth (5-1). West Perth (3-3) is third ahead of Subiaco (3-3) and Claremont (3-3). Read More ...

THERE might have only been three games in Round 7 of the WAFL but there were plenty of exciting performances including Brennan Stack's seven goals, Rudy Riddoch's six and Ricky Cary's five. The three games on Saturday afternoon saw West Perth defeat Perth 15.19 (109) to 14.6 (90) at HBF Arena in a game where Riddoch kicked six goals and Shane Nelson racked up 41 possessions for the Falcons while Stack booted seven majors for the Demons. Swan Districts also defeated Claremont 15.9 (99) to 13.4 (82) at Steel Blue Oval with Cary booting five majors for the black-and-whites. Read More ...

Round 7 of the WAFL Colts competition saw Swan Districts defeat Claremont by 26 points, Peel Thunder take home a three-point victory over East Perth, and Perth defeat West Perth by 36 points at HBF Arena. Community Umpiring Week

AFL umpires are heading into the districts this week to train with community umpires and encourage more people to take up umpiring as part of AFL Community Umpiring Week. In WA, this included AFL umpires Justin Power, Matt Adams, Jeff Dalgleish, Luke Farmer, Dean Margetts, Sam Hunter and Brett Rogers. Community Umpiring Week aims to encourage people to get involved in umpiring Australian Football at the grassroots level. Umpires at each AFL match this weekend will be led on to the ground by four first-year community umpires, giving them a taste of the elite match day experience and demonstrating the opportunities that are available through umpiring. Round 7 – West Perth v Perth Match Report

WEST Perth and Perth had excitement machines at either end putting on a show at HBF Arena on Saturday with Rudy Riddoch and Brennan Stack combining for 13 goals in a 19-point Falcons victory. It was a remarkable performance by the two exciting forwards who both had the best games of their careers in West Perth's 15.19 (109) to 14.6 (90) victory. Round 7 – Peel Thunder v East Perth Match Report

THERE was plenty of intrigue over Peel Thunder hosting East Perth on Saturday leading into the Western Derby later that night and given the battles between the two in recent years. The two AFL-aligned clubs did battle at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday afternoon ahead of West Coast playing Fremantle at Domain Stadium providing the precursor to the Western Derby. East Perth was also the team that eliminated Peel from the finals in 2015 at the Mandurah venue while the Thunder returned the favour beating the Royals in last year's elimination final on their way to the premiership. Round 7 – Swan Districts v Claremont Match Report

SWAN Districts and Claremont had both made encouraging starts to 2017 but were coming off losses ahead of Saturday's clash at Steel Blue Oval. One of them had to bounce back while the other's start to the season would somewhat be diminished with a defeat on Saturday setting up a fascinating clash at the Bassendean venue who have become used to some remarkable battles over the past decade. THERE were three games in the WAFL on Saturday with West Perth winning a third straight, East Perth a second in-a-row and Swan Districts bouncing back from its first loss of the season. There were three games in Round 7 and all took place on Saturday afternoon with West Perth defeating Perth 15.19 (109) to 14.6 (90) at HBF Arena.  It was a day for the exciting forwards at either end with Rudy Riddoch booting a career-best six goals for West Perth while Brennan Stack also had his best day out booting seven majors for Perth.
