SUBIACO is the first team into the WAFL Grand Final of 2015 thanks to a dominant second half to beat West Perth in the second semi-final on Sunday while East Perth kept its hopes alive with a first semi-final victory over Peel Thunder. West Perth got off to a fast start against Subiaco in the second semi-final at Medibank Stadium, but the Lions kicked 13 of the last 16 goals to end up winning 17.13 (115) to 9.6 (60) with the Lions moving straight into the grand final in a fortnight at Domain Stadium. The first semi-final took place at Bendigo Bank Stadium and it was East Perth on top virtually all afternoon after Peel kicked the opening two goals with the Royals ending up beating the Thunder 10.24 (84) to 9.8 (62). ONE team will be into the 2015 WAFL grand final by Sunday after the last two premiers Subiaco and West Perth do battle at Medibank Stadium in the second semi-final. Subiaco is coming off winning last year's premiership and has gone on to earn the minor premiership in 2015 ending up four games clear on top of the ladder to now earn the right to host Sunday's second semi-final against West Perth. The winner will earn the break next week having moved straight into the grand final while the loser will host a preliminary final against either Peel Thunder or East Perth. The reserves second semi-final will take place at Medibank Stadium at 11.30am with South Fremantle taking on Subiaco for a place in the grand final with the loser to go on to play either Swan Districts or West Perth next Sunday. And the colts' second semi-final will take place at Bendigo Bank Stadium at 9am on Sunday morning with Claremont taking on Swan Districts in a rematch of last year's grand final. PEEL Thunder hosts its first ever WAFL final at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Sunday in the first semi-final up against an East Perth team who has made the last two grand finals and is in its best form of the 2015 season. Peel and East Perth do battle in the cut-throat first semi-final in Mandurah with the winner to advance to the preliminary final next Sunday against the loser of Sunday's other semi-final between Subiaco and West Perth. Meanwhile, the loser's season will be over despite both having a strong last two months of the year to qualify for the finals and to both have appeared capable of challenging for a premiership at different times. A MAN of lesser character might have let being dropped as a premiership player and life member of his club get the better of him, but West Perth wingman Ray Bartholomew instead knuckled down to earn his position back and now he has a chance to help the Falcons to a second flag in three years. The popular and hard-running 30-year-old has been a permanent member of the West Perth side ever since 2005, and has now played 185 matches, played in the 2013 premiership, played for Western Australia, been twice fairest and best runner-up and earned life membership. However, Bill Monaghan hasn’t become the longest serving coach at West Perth in the club's history without making some tough decisions and Bartholomew found himself spending nine weeks in the reserves earlier this year despite the track record he has over the last decade. EAST Perth coach Brian Dawson is fully aware that Peel Thunder will be a vastly different side in Sunday's first semi-final at Bendigo Bank Stadium, but with the form the Royals are in he remains confident of staying in the hunt for a third successive WAFL grand final. Dawson has been in charge at East Perth with the Royals making grand finals the last two years, but following a loss to Subiaco back in Round 16, it appeared they might not make finals at all this season. However, since then East Perth won five of its last six games of the season to finish in fourth position, and then the Royals beat Claremont by 32 points in last Sunday's elimination final at Medibank Stadium to book a spot against Peel this Sunday in Mandurah. PEEL Thunder will continue to make history by hosting its first ever final at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Sunday's first semi-final battle with East Perth and Cam Shepherd is looking forward to that after being disappointed with some of the discussion following the club's finals debut. Peel took part in its first ever final last Sunday against West Perth at HBF Arena in the qualifying final, but with all but three of its Fremantle contingent unavailable and then captain Brendon Jones and defender Josh Bootsma withdrawing through injury, it wasn’t a day to remember. In the end, the Thunder had five debutants and three players lining up in the league team for the first time in 2015 and despite starting encouragingly with a young and inexperienced group with three goals to one in the first quarter, they ended up losing to the Falcons by 109 points. WAFL Players claimed the top three places in the NAB AFL Rising Star Award announced by the AFL. Claremont’s Jesse Hogan took out the 2015 Award playing for Melbourne with 49 votes ahead of East Fremantle’s Patrick Cripps (41 votes - Carlton) and Subiaco’s Dom Sheed (27 votes - West Coast). Hogan went to Melbourne via GWS as 17-year-old in 2012; he was selection two. He was recruited from Claremont and played his junior football at Marist Junior Football Club. Cripps was recruited from East Fremantle by Carlton with the 13th selection in the 2013 AFL National Draft, while Sheed was selected by West Coast from Subiaco at number 11 the same year. The WAFC is seeking expressions of interest from coaches who wish to complete their Level 2 or Club Coach Coordinator accreditations on November 21 and 22. The two courses will run concurrently in 2015 with a list of high profile presenters set to be announced in the coming month.  This year’s course will again be held at the state of the art learning facilities at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup. THE WAFL is down to four teams in the race for the 2015 premiership with East Perth eliminating Claremont on Sunday while West Perth moved to one win away from a grand final berth by beating Peel Thunder. Peel Thunder took part in its first ever WAFL finals appearance in the qualifying final at HBF Arena on Sunday and while Peel started well with three goals to one in the first quarter, its undermanned and inexperienced side was overwhelmed by West Perth in the finish. The Falcons kicked 21 of the last 23 goals of the game to end up winning 22.13 (145) to 5.6 (36). The other final on Sunday was the elimination final battle between East Perth and Claremont at Medibank Stadium, and that saw the Royals kick the only four goals of the last quarter to win 13.15 (93) to 9.7 (61).
