Round 4 Preview - East Perth v Claremont

FRIDAY night WAFL football returns to Leederville Oval in Round 4 of the WAFL season and there's plenty on the line with East Perth hunting its first win and Claremont looking to remain undefeated. Leederville Oval will play host to a double-header this weekend and it gets underway on Friday night with the Royals hosting the Tigers. It's shaping as a big night for both clubs as well. East Perth is desperate for a win after three straight losses to start the season at the hands of Peel Thunder, West Perth and Swan Districts. WAFL Round 4 teams and previews

FOUR games, two days, three venues sets the scene for Round 4 of the 2017 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season that includes a grand final rematch on Saturday between Subiaco and Peel Thunder. It's set to be a tantalising and telling round of WAFL action with not only the grand final rematch, but one winless team taking on one undefeated, two teams yet to record a victory locking horns and then two finalists from 2016 finishing things off at the port. Midwest take out 2017 Nicky Winmar Cup

More than 400 Aboriginal boys aged 13 to 15 from all parts of Western Australia took to Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah for the 2017 Nicky Winmar Cup on March 6. The round-robin tournament concluded with a thrilling Grand Final clash between the Midwest and South West teams. Midwest crowned winners after cementing a 3.1 (19) to 2.1 (13) victory over South West. Round 3 Reserves and Colts Wrap

IT was a mixture of day and night fixtures across the Reserves and REDiMED Colts in Round 3 with plenty of standout performances across both grades. The reserves action on Saturday saw Perth defeat Claremont at Lathlain Park 16.12 (108) to 13.11 (89). South Fremantle scored an emphatic 21.15 (141) to 10.6 (66) victory over Peel Thunder while Swan Districts beat East Perth 10.14 (74) to 9.7 (61) and West Perth defeated Subiaco 13.13 (91) to 11.9 (75). In the REDiMED Colts, Round 3 began on Friday night at HBF Arena with West Perth beating Subiaco in a thriller 10.11 (71) to 9.12 (66). Then on Saturday, Claremont defeated Perth 14.13 (97) to 4.12 (36), Peel Thunder beat South Fremantle 16.7 (103) to 5.5 (35) and Swan Districts downed East Perth 10.13 (73) to 9.10 (64). Development course rewarding experience for umpire coaches

More than 30 community football umpire coaches from across Western Australia got the opportunity to hear from former AFL Umpire Stuart Wenn as part of an intensive professional development course facilitated by the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) on Saturday, March 25. Wenn, who has umpired more than 300 AFL matches and now has a role with the AFL Umpiring Coaching department, shared his top umpire coaching techniques during a workshop at Leederville Oval. Wenn stressed the importance of asking umpires questions and confirming their processes in decision-making rather than focussing too heavily on telling the umpires how they could have managed an incident or decision. Dads' day at the WAFL

The West Australian Football League (WAFL) encourages all dads, father figures and their kids to get involved in the activities planned for this week’s Fathering Project Round. This round is being held in collaboration with the Fathering Project, which is a non-for-profit charity supporting fathers and father figures who want to make a real difference in, and have a positive impact on the lives of children. IT was another round of outstanding performances in the WAFL on Saturday and while Claremont's Alexander Manuel gets the nod for Player of the Round, he had plenty of tough opposition. Saturday's Round 3 WAFL action saw Claremont defeat Perth 22.15 (147) to 13.10 (88) at Lathlain Park to remain unbeaten in 2017 under new coach Darren Harris. Swan Districts also remained unbeaten defeating East Perth 11.7 (73) to 9.9 (63) at Leederville Oval while Subiaco downed West Perth 13.9 (87) to 11.10 (76) at HBF Arena and South Fremantle prevailed over Peel Thunder 12.14 (86) to 5.13 (43) at Bendigo Bank Stadium. Ellenbrook crowned Champions League competition winners

Ellenbrook Secondary College came out winners of the 2017 West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) Champions League competition, a 16-a-side pre-season school and community football tournament held over March. 10 teams and a total 200 participants aged 16 and 17 years took part in the four-week competition, which concluded with a thrilling Grand Final tri-series between Ellenbrook Secondary College, Governor Stirling Senior High School and Hills Rangers JFC at Noranda Lightning Park. Round 3 – West Perth v Subiaco Match Report

SUBIACO and West Perth games rarely fail to deliver and Saturday's clash at HBF Arena was another tight affair with Ben Sokol proving the difference as the Lions won by 11 points. West Perth finished the first half on fire with five goals in 11 minutes to lead by eight points at the main break. But Sokol caught fire kicking four goals to start the third term to put the Lions on top and that was enough to set up the eventual 13.9 (87) to 11.10 (76) victory. Read More ...


Round 3 – Peel Thunder v South Fremantle Match Report

SOUTH Fremantle bounced back from a loss last week to end the winning run of reigning premiers Peel Thunder with an impressive 43-point win at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday. Peel came into the game having not lost since Round 22 last year. The Thunder went on to win the last five games of 2016 on the way to a maiden premiership before impressive wins to start 2017 against East Perth and East Fremantle. Round 3 – East Perth v Swan Districts Match Report

SWAN Districts came from behind to continue its undefeated start to the 2017 WAFL season beating East Perth by 10 points at Leederville Oval on Saturday. Swans won just two games in all of 2016 on the way to the wooden spoon. They have now already bettered that in 2017 following Saturday's 11.7 (73) to 9.9 (63) victory over the Royals. CLAREMONT continued its impressive start to the 2017 WAFL season under new coach Darren Harris beating Perth by 59 points at Lathlain Park on Saturday. It was a big day for Perth playing its first home game at Lathlain Park for 2017 and on the new playing surface with the on-going redevelopment taking place at the venue. There was plenty of excitement surrounding their first appearance at home but Claremont was out to spoil that party and did so in emphatic fashion running out 22.15 (147) to 13.10 (88) winners. IT was a day not to be the home teams in Round 3 of the WAFL on Saturday with Claremont, South Fremantle, Subiaco and Swan Districts all scoring strong road victories. The full round of action on Saturday took place on Saturday starting at Lathlain Park with Claremont delivering its second commanding performance of the season under new coach Darren Harris.  The Tigers beat Perth 22.15 (147) to 13.10 (88).
