SOUTH Fremantle maintained its hold on top spot on the WAFL ladder with a fifth straight victory beating Perth by 60 points at Lathlain Park on Saturday. It was always going to be a big task for the one-win Perth to challenge a South Fremantle who has lost just once this season. The final scoreline of South Fremantle winning 22.14 (146) to 13.8 (86) suggests a comfortable win for the Bulldogs, but it doesn’t tell the full story of a competitive Demons effort who ensured South Fremantle had to work hard to beat them. WEST Perth has continued its strong run of form winning a fourth consecutive match to improve to a 5-2 record beating the still winless East Fremantle by 35 points on Saturday at East Fremantle Oval. West Perth came into the clash at East Fremantle Oval on the back of a three-game winning streak since a 103-point loss to South Fremantle, so they had plenty of momentum up against the winless Sharks. But East Fremantle had been competitive and been in the contest the previous three weeks against Perth, Swan Districts and South Fremantle, and also had the added motivation with the 150th game of loyal servant Andrew Stephen to try and win for as he earned life membership of the club. REIGNING premiers Peel Thunder returned to the winner's list on Saturday holding Claremont to one first half goal to end up winning by 23 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. Peel and Claremont both came into the contest on losing runs with the Thunder having lost their last four games, and the Tigers their previous three ahead of the clash on neutral turf at the port with Claremont Oval still unavailable. But Peel started the game with a goal in the first minute to captain Gerald Ugle and that set the tone for the afternoon.
